Food ...... Food ....... and more food.....
That seems to be what most celebrations are all about...
The more one eats, the better time they say they had...

A few days ago, I was using the oven in the stove and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang.. The circuit breaker blew on the electrical panel and the stove went out.. I reset the breaker and then realised the oven wouldn't come back on..
Today I had a stove repairman come to the house and he gave me the "good" news.. The control panel on the stove burnt out and there isn't any replacement parts for that model any more.. The stove was bought new when we moved into our house in April 2006.. It is only 12 years old and it can't be repaired.. The stove top works perfectly but no oven at all..
That means tomorrow we are off to buy a new stove.. This time I will be looking at a stove with knobs and not one of those with a control panel..
For the amount of time we have left to live in the house, it doesn't pay to spend a fortune on a sophisticated stove.. We are planning on selling in 2 years and moving to a larger city..
In the meantime, I have the stovetop, the microwave, the slow cooker, and the BBQ.. No problem except making some casseroles.. Life will go on in the meantime.......

Went out today and bought a brand new stove.. Bought a Westinghouse model.. They are all the same ....
It was delivered, installed, and the old one taken out to the dump..
now I can resume my cooking with an oven..

Getting used to the new stove....
I made a meatloaf (used mince chicken) using the oven and to my surprise, it came out just perfect....
The top burners are quite a bit faster to get red hot.. I must reduce the amount of heat as compared to the old one to get the same heat..
Boy does a new stove ever make a difference in cooking..

Oh when did you decide you were going to move to the city Steve?..I don't think I heard that from you before, was it a recent decision ? Will it be far from where you are now?

Much as the countryside is beautiful and peaceful, sometimes as we get older we need to be closer to more useful facilities...

You won't miss the bears in your garden will you?...lol

    No Holly..
I won't miss the bears or the deer or the beavers or the racoons or the foxes or the coyotes or the rabbits or any other wild animal we have in our area and especially in our back yard..
We will be selling in about 2 years in order to rent a apartment in North Bay which is a much larger city than Massey.. In North Bay, they have absolutely everything including a new hospital, loads of doctors, shopping malls, theaters, good restaurants, senior clubs, and many senior apartment buildings..
We would like to enjoy some luxury towards the latter years.. No more worries about being a homeowner.. Just pay the rent and enjoy living stress free wondering what will break next...............

Absolutely the perfect idea... . North Bay sounds lovely and just ideal for you and Anne-marie with regard everything on your doorstep. No long overnight stays for hospital visits etc, and of course a landlord to do all the repairs as you get older and less able. Sounds like bliss...you've sold it to me, when do we move? I'll get packing right now... :D

Not for another 2 years.. First we must sell out house here in Massey which won't be a problem or big delay..
Then we MUST find a nice apartment, 2 bedroom, in North Bay and there are many that are Senior Living places with patios on the ground floor and large balconies on the rest of the building.. Some are facing Lake Nipissing which we don't want as that lake is like a sea and is always very windy especially in winter..
Packing up here and especially downsizing will be a real challenge..
Google ....... North Bay, Ontario to get an idea as to what I am talking about and let me know........

I googled and it looks beautiful. :D

Yes good idea not to have an apartment on the side facing the windy Lake..also if you're getting an above ground floor apartment , corner ones tend to be the windiest so might be best avoided. Having an apartment with a beautiful view from a spacious balcony would probably suit you best given that you're moving from such a beautiful wide open space, so it would prevent any feeling of claustrophobia..

Can your family help with the packing?...it's such a huge job at our age , I know!!

Steve, I don't like appliances with all that gadgetry, either. The more you have, the more you have to break down. My oven is built into the cabinet. It has an on and off button and a temperature set button. It used to have a clock that you could set to turn the oven on and off at a set time. That has long since quick working. We installed it when we built this house in 1971. The only thing we have had to replace is the heating units. I hope I never have to buy another one.

I think you should take an apartment facing the lake. The view will be worth having the wind. Just think what it will look like ..... I started to say in the winter but It will probably be beautiful all year round.

Be sure to get an extra bedroom so @Holly Saunders and I can come for a visit..... In the summer. ;):D
