I don't think it would happen, but if it did, it would change not only California but the entire nation. The California Senators are now blocking any judicial nominees put forward by Trump and imagine how other policies would change. There would be conservative, or at least sensible, congressional folks sent to Congress from California. I have found the stupidest folks in Congress almost always come from California. Barbara Boxer used to hold the title, but Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi are vying for the title now. Feinstein isn't at all stupid, but she is crooked and corrupt.
Even when wife and I lived in So California (Costa Mesa), there were all kinds of rumors spreading at different times how Northern California and Central California wanted to become totally independent of Southern California. "We want nothing to do with the Southern part of this State" it was said. And, since wife and I have both been in the northern and central part, we can understand why they don't want anything to do with the southern part. To a degree, very different lifestyle in the southern part. The split never happened, but this article shows that a split is still wanted.
Yes, it's been predicted since I was a kid and I'm sure before that. Dividing California has been going on for years. I don't think it will happen.

If California were to secede from the Union, Trump could act on precedent and invade California. Since most of the gun banners live in California, the war shouldn't be much of a contest, and then we could send carpetbaggers from the East to take all their stuff. After all, Lincoln is commonly heralded as a hero and a great American patriot.
