I'm still thinking about getting new glasses but the truth is my eye sight isn't what it used to be for some projects. I'm doing a simple cross stitch and it's kind of not a lot of fun since I stand by the window for the good light and only do a couple of rows. I used to like line stitch embroidery but the last time I did that I didn't feel like I could keep my stitches neat.

I may need a greater magnification on my reading glasses although they are fine as they are for knitting and reading.

I've thought about those daylight type lamps you can buy but have read mixed reviews and I also have two bad cats that like to chew on cords. Everything has to be behind something and I plug my night stand lamp on in the evening and unplug it when I go to sleep and put the cord under my table topper.

Anyone else find their sight changing for projects they used to like to do and did you find any solutions. This goes for men's projects also so men have hobbies. Thanks.

I don't do cross stitch but I have trouble threading the needle on my sewing machine. I have found that a brighter light helps with that. The one I have is sort of like a desk lamp. I think it has a halogen bulb in it, anyway it's very bright. I focus it right on the needle and it helps a lot.

This is a superb magnifying lamp. I bought this for my husband about 4 years ago, because although he had almost perfect eyesight he couldn't see the tiny little screws and pieces he needed for his hobby. The light is a bright daylight light, and when you lift up the lid at the top of the light it becomes a magnifier, so you just have the light next to where you're working , lift the top up and work underneath for 4 times extra magnification. The whole unit bends to lots of angles so you get the perfect position for you.. it's about the size of a normal table lamp... My husband is very technical, and owns just about every tool you can think of ...but he tells everyone the best gift he ever received was that lamp and now that he needs reading glasses, he's even more grateful for it...

What might work for you is a little flashlight kind of gadget that is called a “headlamp”. It has aband that fits around your head and the flashlight part is right on your forehead, so whatever direction you are looking, that is where the light is shining, but you are still hands-free; so you can do whatever you need to do without having to hold something in one hand.
When I lived in the country and had to feed horses and do my farm chores in the dark, the headlamb was perfect because i could carry around the hay for the horses, or whatever i was doing, and still see where I was going.
They are about $5 at Harbor Freight; but i am sure that Amazon would probably have them also.

My wife has done cross stitch for years.

The back bedroom is full of thread cases, lamps and magnifying
    equipment.

She is always trying some new light or gadget to help her see better.
I help when I can with different power supplies and cree lighting
    ideas.

( I also stop by Michaels on my way home and pick up those DMC
colors she doesn't have. How that is possible, I can't imagine )

Hope you find what you're looking for.
