Good dreams...do not always mean good things...just like bad dreams, even nightmares do not always mean bad things.

The OP presents an interesting question. As a controlled dreamer, I appreciate my dreams when everything goes according to plan and I do not lose control.
So far as how much I enjoy them might fall into the philosophical realm of Stoicism in that I can control what happens but I can't change the fact that I am going to dream even if I do not wish to do so.

I don't enjoy my dreams or that has never entered my mind. I don't often remember dreams but I do remember the last dream I had. I was in the city of my birth but hardly recognized anything. I encountered two men on a bridge I had occasionally crossed in real life. One of the men was a brother in law dead several years. I asked about someone else who might possibly help me get a job with a certain company. The brother in law told me he's been dead some time and I answered that's okay, I need to talk to him, thinking maybe he might use his influence to assist me. I went on my way and kept looking, finally gave up looking, only to get a call from my wife saying this company had called wanting to know when could I go to work for them. Crazy huh? i usually dream of being lost and can't find my way home or I'm without a job and seeking employment.

It's interesting, to me at least, that people who I know might show up at various ages, without regard for others who are in the same dream. I might find a cousin in my dream as he was at ten, yet someone else much older than he would have been when my cousin was ten. It's like the chronology of time has no place in my dreams. I have also noticed that other people are in my dreams who are not at all familiar to me.

The strangest dream I had happened over a 3 night period. The first night I dreamed my ex (my husband at the time) died. The second night I dreamed we were making all the funeral arrangements, and the third night I dreamed we buried him.

He's still very much alive but our marriage has been dead and buried for a very long time now.

In a dream state, the brain really doesn't have any concept of time nor age of a person. For example, a dream concerning 2 siblings of nearly the same age in reality, might appear in a dream with one of them at their present age whilst the other might be much younger. The person makes more difference than their ages.
So far as familiarity, too bad you are not an artist. If you could draw the people in your dreams that you do not know, there is a possibility that one of your natural (genetic) relatives do.
DNA entanglement is a fantastic study and very revealing and even the idea of Instinct is now being redefined because of it.

I don’t think that I appreciate my dreams, an the true sense of the word; but I do enjoy them sometimes. I seldom have nightmares; but sometimes I have stressful ones, and I definitely would not sleep longer just to binge-dream, as @Ken Anderson calls it.
Some dreams I know the people and I am myself in the dream; but other dreams, even though I seem to know the person in my dream-state; I have no idea who they are in actuality, and I think that maybe I am someone other than myself in those dreams.
I think that what does interest me the most about my dreams is the interaction between my subconscious/dreaming brain, and my conscious/thinking brain.
When I am in a deep sleep, I am not aware of dreaming at all; but as I come into a lighter sleep, then my conscious mind “observes” the dream, but does not interfere with it, even when it does not make sense.

As I wake up a little more, then my mind starts interacting with my dream-mind.
The other night, I was dreaming something, and in my dream, I needed a name for someone in the dream, so I named them “Father Abraham”. (Pretty sure I was singing the little song, too). Instantly, my conscious mind broke into my dream and said (in a shocked voice) “What ......couldn’t you come up with a better name than THAT ?”
I was still chuckling about it later when I told Bobby about the dream.

I probably dream every night and enjoy my life while I sleep, most of the time.

Last night had a not pleasant point so maybe I will muscle test myself to see if any truth to it.

My dreams are always Cecil B. DeMille-cast-of-thousands epics. I can't dream about cute kittens or meadows at sunrise or sliding down a moonbeam. Oh, no, my dreams have to be sci-fi thrillers, disaster movies or great dramas. I'm usually pretty glad to wake up. They're seldom restful. I must have an overactive imagination that shows up at night.

As a boy, ~12 years old, I did a lot of the needed painting on our house during summer vacation. Climbed WAY up high on a big, heavy, 16-foot wooden ladder. Often thought what it would be like to fall off.

Wouldn't you know it? All my life, I've dreamed fairly often that I was in a situation where I was falling, often into water, which I still greatly fear....

I too have dreams of falling but not into water necessarily.

It's interesting that dreams can reveal fears that your conscious mind won't address but your unconscious mind will.

For instance: for years I had a recurring dream about dialing "0" on the phone and telling the operator that I needed the police or a fire truck or an ambulance (this was before 9-1-1). In my dream, the operator would always tell me that I needed to call them directly and would give me a number that I would immediately forget, thus I would have to call the operator again. Rinse and repeat.

Then my neighbor had a heart attack and I had to call for an ambulance. Still prior to the 9-1-1 system, so I had to call the operator. She immediately connected me with the ambulance people. I never had that dream again, because my fears had been allayed.

The mind is a tricky thing.

Don't dream very often but do have a recuring dream that varies a little but essentially is the same. The dream is about being in the Navy & being transferred from duty station to another. During the transfer temporary barracks & lockers are assigned. Then it gets bad.

The bad is while I'm away from the barracks doing whatever the duty chief has me doing. My pea coat, dress blues & all my good whites are stolen. I report this since all my clothes are stenciled but nothing is recovered. The dreams end there without me knowing how I'm going to replace my clothing.
