I have been enjoying netflix for quite some time and am always thrilled when I find a really good TV series that I've never seen before. Right now, I'm watching "The Paradise". It's a BBC drama series set in 1890s Newcastle. It portrays the people who own, work and shop in the first English department store called The Paradise. The main character is a fresh faced young girl, who comes into the big city from a village in Scotland and gets a job at the store. It's actually very good, if you like period dramas. Another series that I just finished is "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries". It's an Australian TV series set in 1920s Melbourne, with a glamorous flapper as a female private investigator. Another great period drama. What are you watching? I'm always looking for some good recommendations.
I also look at "Miss Fisher's Mysteries", I like her sassy ways on the show, her wardrobe is also very eye appealling. The repeats come the PBS station in my locale, I know there is a new season but it has not come on the local tv yet. I also look at shows that we would not normally get here in the states on Netflix. I am a big animated person so I look at the new ones when I can. Hulu Plus is also good but they have ad breaks which I don't like, if I am paying to watch the shows I feel that I should not have to watch the ads also.
The other place to check if you have Amazon Prime is Amazon Instant Video.... between Netflix and Amazon, we never run out of things to watch... we tend to only watch British TV, and both are filled with shows from the UK... Have you watched Doc Martin? Great show... I think Netflix has it...
Yes, I love Doc Martin. I keep hoping they will come out with new episodes. Do you know if it's been renewed or canceled? I also really like Murdoch Mysteries - a Canadian production about a detective in Toronto in the 1890s using "new" forsenic science to solve crimes. I find it interesting that he meets famous people before they were famous like Conan Doyle and Thomas Edison. I'm hoping that they will have new episodes of this one too.
Netflix is great and all, but the content is rarely up to date. It is really just a compilation of already freely accessible data on the web. However, I have noticed that the quality and streaming can be a lot better. Still the content should be updated and including a larger variety. At least so I believe, there platform on browsers lacks recent releases which one must pay more for if not found on the available selection of films. Just saying, an opinion for thought.
I may have mentioned this before because it's been an irritation for quite some time now. Netflix is offering and even creating a lot of movies in languages other than English, and I have no complaints about that. I can watch movies in German or any of the Scandinavian languages and follow what's going on, even without captions, and I do that sometimes. However, I don't think that most people want to watch movies in languages they don't understand, at least not often, yet Netflix will occasionally mention that the movie is "international," which usually means that it's in a language other than English, but more often they don't. Instead, the foreign language movies will be presented to me alongside all of the other movies, and the title and description will be in English. Too often, the first clue that I have that the movie is going to be in another language will be when I try to watch it and don't understand the language. As said, I will sometimes watch movies in German, Swedish, Norwegian, or related languages, but I don't want to watch movies in French, or Korean, or Japanese. They might be beautiful languages, but I don't have a clue as to what's going on in movies that are in these languages and, although I understand far more Spanish than I do German or Swedish, I have never watched a movie in Spanish that I liked, and wouldn't like them if they were in English. That's just a matter of taste, I suppose. Since I watch a lot of movies, I have already seen many of the movies that are offered, and I sometimes click into two or three movies before finding one in a language that I can tolerate. Netflix presents movies to its users based on what they consider the member's preferences to be, based on movies that they have watched and those that they have liked or disliked, and I am pretty sure that if I indicate that I disliked a police show that was in Korean, Netflix will assume that I don't like police shows, not that I don't want to watch anything in Korean. Why can't Netflix add the language to the description of the movies it offers or, better yet, let users opt out of specific languages? Or maybe list them into separate categories based on language?
I just watch it with English subtitles I don't have a problem with foreign films, in fact I prefer them.
I rarely just sit and watch a movie. Since I am working while I am watching movies, I usually glance up at the screen only once in a while so its the audio that clues me into whether I should be watching or not.

We cancelled Netflix a few months ago, because there wasn't anything on that we wanted to see anymore. Watched Longmire, Grace & Frankie and a few movies, but that was it. Longmire was good, but the season ended. Grace & Frankie was getting to risqué for us. We plan on getting Netflix back so we can see the final season of Longmire, but other than that, nothing on Netflix for us. We already have a number of movies that are on Netflix that we like.
Hi @Cody Fousnaugh, I’m also a fan of the Longmire series. Other than the first season that I watched with Michael, I have watch through the sixth on Netflix. I’m sorry that there is only one more season. I think it is the best modern western that I’ve seen in a long time. When does the next season start? Since you and Mrs. Cody go to the movies often, can you suggest anymore good westerns? I love a good western, but I’m not into much blood and gore, although some is acceptable as you can’t have a good western without some “shoot ‘um ups”. The last modern western movie I’ve seen had way to much in it.
Sorry, but you got something wrong about us and movies. We own dvd movies, but don’t go to a theater that often. Our next “theater” event will be going to see The Last Jeti, in December. The last Western movie we bought was The Magificent Seven with Denzel Washington.
Needed to relax after the 'Great Snow' here in Nashville and came across 'Fawlty Towers' on Netflix. Just the thing I needed. Was one of my favorites. Poor Basil ( John Cleese ) dealing with running the hotel and avoiding his level-headed wife Sybil, Polly and the waiter, Manuel. I started with episode one, ( I believe a very young Gary Oldman has a small role ), and watching as many as I can. Brilliant!, as they say. Dry, Python type humor - the kind I like.
I don't watch Netflix much anymore and will probably be canceling it. I used to watch Netflix more than any of the others but now they have way too many foreign-language movies in the mix. While I certainly don't mind them offering foreign language shows, far too often they leave no way for me to know what language the movie is going to be in until I start watching it, and that's just a waste of my time. Sometimes I scroll through the available movies, selecting four or five of them before finding one that is in English. I don't have time for that. When You click into the full description, sometimes it will tell you what language it's in, but not always, and having to click into the full description is more work than I want to do. What can be more basic than sorting movies by language? Again, they can include all of the languages they want and that won't bother me, but if they are going to keep presenting Italian, French, and other foreign language movies to me, I don't have time for that. If a movie is good enough, I can tolerate Swedish, German, or one of the Scandinavian languages.
