It's been 48 hours since my Cochlear Implant surgery and I am feeling fine just a little unsteady walking due to the inner ear thing and surgery. No shower or getting my head wet for a week. The staples will be removed on the 29th and the BIG DAY that they call ACTIVATION will be on the 28th of December. That is where they place the KANSO Sound Processor on the side of my head and throw a switch and see what sounds I hear. Electronic adjustments are made as I report to the Audiologists what I hear and don't hear. This is not a PLUG & PLAY thing, it will require some practice and training on my part tp hear well again. I am looking forward to the noise of the new year. There will be nothing visible in or behind my ear. The only thing visible will be the half dollar size Kanso receiver under my hair on the left side of my head. This highly sensitive receiver picks up music, voice, barking, crickets birds etc. and transmits the sounds to the implant.
I remember when Rush Limbaugh had his cochlear implant. He tried to explain it on the radio, so I know it's a whole process of learning how to hear with it. I wish you all the best with it.
So glad to hear your surgery went well @Lon Tanner and hope you get the best Christmas present ever this year...your wish to hear everything you want to hear again.
That is awesome news , @Lon Tanner ! It seems like life is going well for you this year, and you should be celebrating for the New Year. It is a lot of surgeries and changes, first the Pacemaker, then the new apartment, and now the cochlear ear transplant, and each one of these have the potential of making your life a much better and enjoyable one. I am happy for you, and looking forward to how things go when they do the activation !
You must be getting really excited...and maybe a bit anxious that the Big Day is almost here @Lon Tanner. I hope when your Doctor "pulls the switch" on December 28th you will be able to hear some "sweet sounds" once again. Praying all will go as your heart desires with your hearing.
Activation of my Cochlear Implant will be at 9 AM on the 4th of January. A half dollar size device which is the sound processor called KANSO is what will be turned on to do the Activation. Every CI recipient is different in regards to what and how well they will hear at activation. Adjustments called MAPPING will have to be made.
