I think that we have a similar situation here with the Huntsville airport. It is also a small one. Although I don't fly anywhere, my daughter flies all the time for her work, and she always has to fly from Huntsville to the big Atlanta airport to get where she is going, and the same thing when she comes back home again.
Maybe the same thing would work for Frank's wife, and she could fly from their local airport to the closest large airport that their planes fly to ? It is a long ways for him to have to drive a 600 mile round trip to the airport each time, and I sure would not want to have to drive that far either.
I remember driving across Washington State going from Idaho to the Seattle area, and it was around 300 miles, and was an all-day trip there, and then another all-day trip home again. That always wore me out, and it was back in the days when I was young enough to drive that far and not worry about the distance.

I agree and I hate connections but sometimes it's a necessary evil. I've had to spend a few nights in strange cities at a hotel because of a missed connection...I don't like it but I can do it...some might not.

Maybe if she can find a flight with more connecting time than some of the close ones I've had, like 30-45 mins....that might work for them.

I've had 3 hrs sometimes but I'm never bored at an airport.

Hoping the very best for you Steve. Hadn't been around a lot so I hadn't heard you are going for surgery. My dad was born and raised in The Sault:) I don't even know how big a city it is now, but if you're going there for surgery, they must have good, medical facilities;)

    Denise....
That's Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario, of course..
They just got the most up to date and modernistic hospital built and they have nothing but the best surgeons available.. The hospital is just about 2 years old and is HUGE with all the facilities..
We go there because of the wait times are very fast, the services are wonderful and the location isn't that bad.....

Wonderful, and yes, my dad always called it The Sault, he was Canadian, as well as my mom.

So glad you have good healthcare. I live in a small town with almost zero. I have to drive 2 hours to a cardio. There is a hospital here, and of course life-flight for emergencies. I did hear they have a cardio here now but haven't checked it out. I've been considering moving closer to a larger city.

I did have a rotator injury as well. Mine did keep me awake, or wake me for months before I finally went to a doc who sent me to physical therapy. I was really fortunate that worked. I have no issue with it now and work with weights/stretch-bands. I understand yours must be much worse to require surgery. I believe in alternative medicine, but just as much in conventional.

    @Yvonne Smith
It's called "Laughlin/Bullhead City International Airport, true enough, but the fact is, there have been no scheduled airline flights in or out, since the airlines were deregulated over 20 years ago. BHC has been courting airlines to begin a few scheduled flights for years. The airlines are reluctant, and demand revenue "guarantees", an absurdity IMO. BHC finally convinced American Airlines to begin daily flights to BHC from Phoenix and back, once a day, 7 days a week. This began in mid-February. The guarantees included much-reduced airport fees and annual revenue to exceed $ 1 million.

So my wife checked possible flights from Phoenix to Fort Wayne, and the few possibilities existing all required multiple stops, most "red-flagged" as having insufficient time between connection to assure success. The one viable possibility required 18 hours total time!

Despite no scheduled flights, numerous big jets fly in and out every day. In 2014, one-quarter million enplanes and deplanes! That's a lot of flyers! All being brought in by subsidized charter flights supported by two hotels: Riverside and Harrah's. Most all of the charter offers involve stays of under one week, no choice of arrival or departure dates. So there you have our "kettle of fish", the "fish" being the gambling public!

Yvonne.. I am sure it is nice to have certain herbs cure your problem, but those herbs must be taken months before the pain starts.. it is a build-up in your system that works.. again, depending on what the problem is to begin with.. If you have (like I have) a bone on bone situation, nothing will help other than surgery..
When one has severe pain, herbs won't cure the problem within the next 20 minutes..
Oxycodone will start to work within 15 to 20 minutes and the pain is drastically reduced if not gone..

On the other hand, some herbal medicines are quite pricey while I can get pain relief for only $2.00 for 3 months supply..

It is now just after 4:00am and I am up and on the computer..
If I stay up for about one hour or so, the pain in my shoulder will eventually go away because sleeping on it was painful.. If I take a pain killer, I will most likely have to sit up for about 30 or so minutes till the pill starts to work..
This way, I avoid taking a pill by just changing positions by sitting up for a bit longer..

This goes on each and every night.. I only take the pain killers when I have to..
During the day, that is another thing.. I have not much choice but to take my Oxycodone....
I really don't want to take them unless there is no other option..

It must be rough when both of you are having health problems at the same time Steve. I know it will all work out though and I'm glad you have something that helps ease your pain in the meantime. Hope your wife has all she needs to be comfortable as she can be too. Praying better days are ahead for both of you.

My wife has that HUGE boot on her foot that is better than a cast as she can shower and take it off to sleep..
Her foot is healing but very slowly.. Her pain has diminished quite a bit but upon occasion is still there.. She tries to stay off her foot as much as possible, but, it is still a walking boot and she has to use it every now and again..

We have an appointment with our orthopedic specialist next week to have the results of our Cat Scans..
Again, that means travelling out of town to Sault Ste. Marie, but we don't mind, as it gives us the occasion to go to the big city, make a change, and shop a bit..
Besides, we get our Travel Grant which is $250.00.. Now that helps BIG time for the expenses.. We stay at the Comfort Inn, have a lovely supper at a good restaurant, have an excellent breakfast at the hotel, fill up with gas and have lunch on the way home, and other than personal shopping, have some $$$ left over..

The travel grant does sound nice, is it part of your insurance @Steve North?

Of course if you are hurting...nothing is fun. :(

NO !! it has nothing to do with our insurance..
The travel grant is given to those that live more than 100 kms from a specialist..
That is a provincial thing and it only applies to residents who live in Northern Ontario..
If it is more than 200 kms, they add an extra $100.00 for you to sleep over because it is way too far to do on the same day..
If you travel from 100 kms to 200 kms, they pay 4 cents a km..
If you travel more than 200 kms, they pay 5 cents a km plus the $100.00 extra..
When we go to Sault Ste. Marie, we get $247.50 for the trip.. (I call it $250.00).......
The only requirement to get the extra $100.00 is they want an official receipt from a hotel that you stayed over, regardless of what you paid, even if the room was under the allotted $100.00, that's OK.....
If you have points and you get a free night, that's OK, but they still want proof that you did in fact sleep over..
    That is the only requirement...

Oh yes, there is a form that the doctor must fill out and sign which is usually done by the secretary..
