Making carbonated, sparkling drinks with Sodastream at home allows me guilt-free addictive Coka-Cola substitute (almost), anytime. My son-in-law and his wife handed down a SodaStream unit they received on their wedding, bottles and 1 carbonating bottle.

I like the fizzy taste of the sodastream drink. We can, also, get the flavors of about ten available ones to choose from. My favorite fizzy drinks are Cola and gingerbeer.

Might need to look into one of these. I find I'm addicted to carbonation. At times when I was trying to wean myself away from pop or beer, I so craved a carbonated drink I would buy club soda, ice it down and drink that.

Ike, the Sodastream is perfect for that !
I stopped drinking pop with sugar in it many years ago, but then I read so many terrible tings about diet pop, that I stopped drinking that, too.
However, like you, I just love the taste of a carbonated drink. I was also buying the club soda at the store and drinking that instead, since there was nothing else in there but water.
Then, my daughter got us a Sodastream one Christmas, and I now make my carbonated water with that. I can use filtered water from home to make it, and have even added frozen fruit juices into the sodawater for flavoring sometimes, or a little piece of lemon.
You can adjust the amount of fizz by how many times you pump the carbonator, so you can add ice and still have lots of "fizziness".
We have never used any of the flavorings that you can buy, because they all have either sugar or artificial sweetener in them, just like regular soda pop from the store has.

If we go out for a hamburger, then I will treat myself to a regular pop along with the meal, but when I am just at home, I use the Sodastream.

When I was about thirty, and weight gain first became a concern, I began drinking diet drinks. I loved Tab, Diet Pepsi and, most particularly, Diet Moxie. I went through about six a day, sometimes more. For the past few years, I have pretty much quit drinking pop, although I'll sometimes have a Moxie while I am driving somewhere, and if I am ever anywhere that sells Vernors, which is not often, I'll get some of that. Once in a while, I'll try one of the locally produced sodas, but I seldom opt for diet since I'm not drinking them regularly anymore.

Quitting sodas, I found out, guarantees weight loss.

I don't drink too much soda, but always have a ginger ale in the fridge and tonic water for leg cramps.

We rarely drink sodas of any kind and never and of the so called diet sodas. I bought a 2 liter bottle of root beer about a month ago. My wife and I enjoyed root beer floats a couple of times and it was gone. That is the only soda that has been in our house since last summer when we did the same thing.

When traveling I will sometimes get a cream soda or some such when we stop for gas.

Allison, I was using tonic water for cramps too, but somehow got out of the habit. I'm glad of the reminder, I'll have to put that on my shopping list.

The only drink I have tried through that was a root beer. It was terrible! I decided then I didn't need to mess with it anymore. But after your post I wonder if I didn't jump the gun with that decision

Sheldon, it is amazing how tonic water takes care of leg cramps. It also works for restless leg syndrome. Some people wait until they get the cramp and say "it doesn't work". Can't be done that way, they should drink a small glass after their supper....get it on that shopping list Sheldon, we can't live without it, hahaha. Hate those cramps.

I used to visit someone in a nursing home and while there I would see an elderly woman in a crowd watching TV and all of a sudden she would burst into a scream. They would come and just wheel her back to her room. I can't believe how some nurses or care people can't realize she has a cramp. Just disgusts me. I hope I never end up there with cramps in my calf and nobody caring about it.

If it works on restless leg syndrome I definitely want to give it a shot! I used to be on carbo/levo (I believe thats what it was called. It was a Parkinson's disease medicine, and it worked so wonderfully! I never went back to get anymore. There are some nights I really wish I had. BTW: putting a bar of soap under your bed sheet doesn't work. I can't imagine why someone came up with that

I am ignorant of that sodastream that's why I opened this thread just now. From what I understand, that gadget or appliance would make the drink be like carbonated. I remember seeing in the news about a restaurant that serves fruit juice which they make like a carbonated drink. I forgot the name of the gadget but it's not soda stream or maybe it is. My favorite juice is coconut water and in that restaurant, the sparkling coconut water looks so nice to drink.

That's exactly what it is. You get little bottles of syrup, (sodas, and I believe red bull too if you want it). It mixes the syrup and the carbonation so you have a soda. I think it comes out to be a lot cheaper, too.

I do not drink soda/pop because I do not like the carbonnated water. The only soda I will drink is Vernor's if I see one. We had them in Ohio where I grew up but where I live now they are not supplied to this area. Once in awhile I will see one here or traveling. I think they are the best ginger ale sodas. I do like the flovored water, Walmart sells a flavored carbonnated water that I get often, I take the top off and let it go flat then I drink the water.

I used to be addicted to Mt. Dew. I constantly had one on me. But I started drinking sweet tea again, after a couple of decades. Now it's all I can drink. I will have a carbonated drink once in a blue moon. But, usually, I can't stand the carbonation, either. Whenever I do have one, that first gulp almost burns my throat.

:oops:I've never tried Sodastream yet. The commercial seems interesting. Like the coffee makers that make café style coffees and Soda Stream is a bit too pricey for me, so I don't know anything about them. It would be nice to have both of them to treat yourself at home of hot or cold drinks though!
