I always see who is on-line defined by 1.) Members, 2.) Guests, 3.) Robots. What would life be like as a robot? If I changed my screen name from Will Lawrence to Robby Robot, could I be listed as a 'Robot' when I log on?? I wanna be a robot!!! I wanna be a robot!!!! It's soooo boring just being a "Member".............:D:D

Oh, @Will Lawrence , you do not really want to lose your Member status, and only become a robot ! Those poor little fellows might have an exciting sounding title, but they do NOT have all of the wonderful status and privileges that we do belonging to the Members Only Club.
The poor robots are not allowed to post, even when they read something that they really have an opinion about. They can't post pictures that they find online. They can't even have a cup of coffee and a maple bar at Joe's Hi-Goodbye Cafe.
Life is sad for the little fellows.
Not only that, if they do not do a good job with reporting back in whatever they find, they might end up alone on some planet, scooping up trash, like WALL-E did.
We can all call you "Robby " if you want to change your avatar though, and you can pretend that you are a robot, how is that for an idea ? ?

Search engine spiders. You might check with Google or Bing though, and see if they have any openings for a robot.

Yvonne, I believe you're correct. Might be some problems if I were to become a robot. I could be programmed to like certain people... or dislike certain people. Would just as soon make those decisions myself. My wife could program me to do whatever she asks around the house. Wait! She's already done that? Maybe I am a robot?? :>) Instead of posting to an online discussion board, I could do more constructive things like.... Nah! Sorta like having the opportunity to post here. Guess it boils down to two issues. If I WERE a robot, I could be programmed to have the perfect golf swing and never shank a ball again. OTOH, as you point out, I could not enjoy strong, black coffee. One of the few vices left for enjoyment at this age, I MUST have my coffee. End of discussion........

Ken, any idea what they pay? The say Social Security is broke and may run out of money while we're still on God's Green Earth. I doubt Google will ever run out of money. Might have a brighter future..............

Sorta like that idea, Ike. Never got my college degree. However, I'll only enroll in courses that could not be weighted to either liberal or conservative slant, like....

    The Science of Climatology
    History of the Earth
    World Religions
How Race and Religion Shape Cultures
    American Political History

By Golly! Am I on the right.... Umm, correct track????:D

Heck, being a Google robot would have both ups and downs ...

    1. Have you SEEN the Google offices? It's like a teenager's wet dream, with games and a constant supply of great food!

    2. The drawbacks - you work 24/7, 365 days/year. No pension, no healthcare, no company stock buy-in plans. You are told where to go every day, most of the time to boring sites. You may at any time be attacked by a hacker.

What you say is true, Phil. I play a game on my ipad and the company is Pocket gems and its headquarters are in San Francisco and if you read about being an employee there...its exactly as you described in your post.

image.jpg It has nothing to do with the members, they are just bots from google and other search engines I think.

Most forums have them. If you've been on SF, they have them too.

If you click on "members online now" you can see what they are looking at.

Yes, that's it. Those are the bots from the various search engines indexing the pages of the site, which is what helps new people find us. All web sites will have search engine bots (spiders), but some forum software doesn't differentiate them from regular people. From time to time, you might see others, but the most common ones are Google, Bing, and Yahoo, as well as Chinese search engine called Baidu and a Russian one called Yandex.
