I realize that, as a newbie, i shouldn't start off creating a new thread, but would like to share what it's like to live in one of the newer Continuous Care Retirement Communities. You can check out ours here: https://libertyvillageofperu.com/ It's in Peru, Illinois, but the company that owns Liberty Village here, has 17 more similar communities... mostly in the Midwest, but also in Nevada. Since jeanie (my wife) and I have lived in 22 different locations, and since retirement in 1989, looked for a final resting... (er... retirement) place, we feel that where we live now is the best. If there is any interest in this type of retirement community, I'd be happy to go deeper, and give a clear picture of prices, facilities and the kind of activities that have kept us happy since we bought here in 2004. If you do decide to go to the website, take the extra minute to go to "Services" and scroll down to the different parts of the complex. We live in our owned "Villa".... a 1560s.f. beautiful home... (the short video is of our home.) (we bought in 2004 for $140K). Living here entitles us to go into any other part of the Community... Apartments, Assisted Living, Health and Exercise center, Nursing home, or Memory care (Alzheimer's)... we also share (free) transportation, outside activities, and planned community activities... meals, parties, cookouts, and planned entertainment and speakers. Also, free health checkups, hearing, etc. I'm not selling this, but wanted to share. This type of full service CCRC's is becoming more available, and popular, so there could be similar facilities in your area.
We have a relative that just moved there on Aug 29th. Least it sure sounds like the place. I will text her and see.
One of our members @Lon Tanner also lives in an assisted living facility. I think it's in California. It also seems like a really nice place. Being single, I really appreciate getting information on places to keep in mind if I get to a point in my life where I may need more care than I, or my kids, could give to me. Thanks for sharing this sort of information with us.

After living here in Liberty Village, I've been able to see hundreds of different individuals or couples, who have moved in. There are two distinct and very different personality types that account for the vast majority of those who are now living here... and that means in any part of the complex... from independent living to nursing home care. An over generalization to be sure, but easy to spot. 1. Those who are looking for a positive change in their lives... no matter the stage of health they are in. A willing and calculated move. 2. Those who love their homes and where they live, and cannot bear to make a change...The common statement is "I want to live and die here." Even in those cases where the move to a CCRC is a necessity (for whatever the reason), strangely enough, there is very little middle ground. I won't make a judgement, except to say that those who early on accept their new status, generally live happier lives, and seem to live healthier and longer. That said, for jeanie and I , it's a personal thing. At age 68, it was a choice between living in a regular home, (probably in Florida), or looking for something that might provide a form of living insurance. We were very social, and spent most of our retirement doing fun things. Lot's of advice from friends (mostly younger friends)... "You don't want to live in an "Old Folks Home"!!! Some of the retirement homes, even the CCRC's were just that, and it was a tough decision, but we spent long hours looking and found some good alternatives while we were still in Florida. Coming back to Illinois, some of our Florida friends who had a home base in Illinois, took us out hunting. We found Liberty Village, went on a tour of all parts, and fell in love with what was offered. That was 15 years ago. We still live here, and couldn't be happier. A good number of friends who had lived in our Fl "over 55" park, stayed in Florida and moved into regular homes, or stayed in our great Lake Griffin Harbor community. After age 70, more and more health problems, and hospital visits... Less activity, and sadly, many have passed away... struggling to keep up with what used to be full lives. Sound like I'm knocking those decisions. No... we could have easily done the same thing. I think perhaps, the difference is the peace of mind. Not just for us, but for our kids. When lving in our Villa becomes a little too much to handle, we know we can go to the Estates (apartments)... or if life deals more of a hit, to assisted living, or even into memory lane. It will be an easy transition, as we understand how these safety nets will work. To be sure, it would be nice to live to age 95 or 100, still partying, and riding my bike, but in the interim, no worries or thoughts like "OMG... Now what do we do?" Not for everybody, to be sure, but at the least a few hours of consideration, and a check to see what may be available.
