Sweden is conducting an experiment with the 6-hour workday with no deduction in wages. The proponent of the scheme said that the 8 hours of work seem to be an abuse to the body and mind while the 6 hours or work will preserve the health of the worker - in all work places whether factories or offices. And since the 6-hour daily grind is healthier so workers will have less sick leaves and less health issues. I'm sure the labor groups here will pick up that article in New York Times and maybe try to push it in the new congress. And even if that move will face stiff opposition from businesses, at least it is worth a try.
I think a 6 hour work day would be great. It would allow parents not to feel so stressed while raising children. The big questions are: 1. can everyone live on 35 hour a week paycheck and 2. would health insurance still be provided?
