    • The best thread titles will relate to the topic of the thread. In other words, someone shouldn't have to click into the thread in order to find out what it's about.
    • Please, enough with the quotation marks in titles. Ninety percent of the time it doesn't even make sense to use quotation marks, and one hundred percent of the time they are unnecessary. Either way, I will remove any quotation marks from titles because they break the capitalization format. Save your quotes for the posts themselves.
    • Rarely does it make sense to include a series of dots after a title. We all know that the subject will be continued in the posts because that's the point of a thread.

    Sorry, Ken. I think I'm a culprit of doing these things. Glad you brought them to our attention,
    Again, sorry!

    There's no need to apologize. Since the first letter of each letter in a title is capitalized, and the forum views the quotation mark as a character, it doesn't capitalize the letter following it, which makes the title look strange, is all.

    I know that I have included the dots in a few of my titles. I do not have any idea where or when I picked that habit up. I do it because the first word after the dots is never capitalized.

    @Ken Anderson
    That's happened to me several times, and I wondered out loud. One explanation was made, but it made no sense to me, so I let the mater drop.

    It's explained here.

    Whenever a new thread is started, the author of the thread should have twenty-four hours in which the title of the thread can be edited, so if it looks funny, you can change it.

    Ken, I wish you could go all over the internet and tell people these things! :)

    I've seen so many post titles (not here) on other forums like " "what would you do" "question" "this bothers me"

    I could go on and on. I'm like why not just put your darn question in the title. What bothers you? Put it in the title!

    I believe they think that by not stating the topic, people will have to click into the thread in order to see what it's about. That's not what happens, however. More often, fewer people will both clicking on it because they don't see anything in the title that interests or intrigues them. Plus, a topical title will eventually pull people in from the search engines as well, while vague titles are unlikely to.

    Very true! Having trouble with my car, I searched "Ford Trouble Code P0054". One of the first responses was a post from Ford Explorer Forums!

    Being a "Titleist", does not make one a golf ball. Thanks for the tips, Ken!

    I can so totally relate to your statement, @Jeff Tracy ! I love punctuation, and I also add exclamation points , even when not necessary, and I think that adding the dots at the end is very expressive.
    Some of us are simply meant to be dramatic in our communication, I think, and it is hard to omit these when posting a new thread.
