I don't care about the citizenship but find the whole thing interesting. Guess there will be pros and cons to these robots.

Unfortunately robots will rule the world at some point. Many jobs are now done by robots and 2030 will over take retail altogether. In a way we allow this to happen because so many are willing to accept electronic anything that will make life easier for themselves.

Well that might be a good possibility @Gloria Mitchell since robots are already being given citizenship in some places. o_O If one has citizenship they could possibly run for Rulership of the Country they are citizens of.

I'm sure she'll have more rights than real women there.

This is exactly true, and I agree that progress is a good thing, and this is what separates the “civilized world” from the native tribes that still live in some jungle somewhere and have not changed in thousands of years.
When the printer was invented, it allowed books to be printed without having to do it by hand, and more people than ever before were now able to read books. Farm machinery allowed farmers to produce more crops, and machines in industry made jobs easier there than when everything had to be done by hand.
Imagine how much the invention of a sewing machine helped with the manufacture of clothing, and there are now so many things that we have and use in our homes that we take most of these inventions for granted.

I don’t think that a machine should be granted citizenship, that is for sure, and we need to keep a line drawn on the difference between what is a machine and what is a living being. Machines and computers can maybe do a lot of things easier than a human can; but they can only use the intelligence that they are given, and not think for themself.
Just look at how our auto-correct works, as an example. We might mis-spell a word, but the person reading it would probably know what we were trying to write; but the auto-correct just sticks in a random word that usually has no relation to what we are trying to write. The computer can’t look at context of our sentence and put in the logical word.

How does declaring inanimate object a "citizen" make any sense when the defining qualities make no sense? Frank

    Citizenship defined:
"The status of a citizen with its attendant duties, rights, and privileges."

Not all progress is good but it's true that I wouldn't want to go back to the "old days" in alot of the ways we have progressed. It's also true that I wish we hadn't progressed to the way some things are.

Robots becoming citizens is going to far to me.

How can a boy be a girl and vice versa? I could go on and on with this but I'm going to just to bring it down to this. We live in a crazy world where alot of things don't make sense anymore. :)

Anyone remember the hit "LOLA", by Ray Davies and the Kinks? Way ahead of it's time, many strange twists are associated with it's story. For example, the original lyrics mentioned "Coca-Cola", for which BBC banned the sale of the recording, product identification was prohibited. Because of that, Davies was forced to postpone continuation of their U.S. tour, fly back to London, change the lyrics to "Cherry-Cola, then fly back to the States.

    Much more interesting was this:

"Ray Davies has claimed that he was inspired to write "Lola" after Kinks manager Robert Wace spent a night in Paris dancing with a transgender woman.[6] Davies said of the incident, "In his apartment, Robert had been dancing with this black woman, and he said, 'I'm really onto a thing here.' And it was okay until we left at six in the morning and then I said, 'Have you seen the stubble?' He said 'Yeah', but he was too pissed [intoxicated] to care, I think"."

The whole story, inspiring, with it's far-reaching effect, moving to some, disgusting to others, ........the precursor of "Politically Correct", though that term had not yet been invented, is here:
