What are "followers", or what does it imply to be followed? I just noticed I have a few! I think I would like to be a follower, too. Is this idea similar to the "Friends" deal on Senior Forums? Boy, I got burned pretty good on that one! Thanks! Frank
When you click on the avatar of someone, and the little box pops up with their info, you will see a list of several choices there in green, one being follow, and another one ignore. If you follow someone, then you will see their avatar in the box where we see names of who is online, when they are online. This makes it easier for you to know when you have someone online that you are following. Then, I think that you open your profile box, and on the right side at the top, it says "newsfeed". I am not totally sure about this, but I think that this will show you the threads that the people you are following have posted in. That way, you do not miss the threads of someone you want to be sure and read. As an example, I follow Ina, and she follows me. This way, we can both look and see if we found all of the threads that the other one posted in , without having to read through every new thread on the forum to find the posts we want to find. I have never used ignore, but it does basically the opposite, and hides all of the posts of someone you have on ignore; so you will never see their posts, even when they are posting in the thread that you are reading. The exception to this would be if someone quotes the person you have on ignore, and then the quoted thead would be visible to you. I am a long way from being an expert on this, @Frank Sanoica , and just sharing how I think it works. If I missed something, then Ken , or someone else who understands this option, will explain it for both of us.
Yes, kind of like friends on SF. I don't even know who I'm following but I've asked people to unfollow me that hurt me on an another forum and they did.
I've heard of this, wondered about it; forgot it. Heard about it again today although it had probably been there several days. Wondered bout it again, thought must be something to it. Suppose I wanted to follow someone, just supposing how would you or me or one of them robots go about doing such such an act not saying of course we want to but if we did pray tell what acts would a mouse unconnected but a free lanced, blue toothed, low slung, turbo charged with a hang down fully charged battery, what would it have to do to find out about following someone? I do recall my mouse got turned around one time and I was punching buttons trying to get straightened out when I DOUBLE CLICKED SOMETHING and lo and behold a page plopped down from on high and a voice thundered, no no that was the other time, a page plopped down and read, stern like, "You have no followers, why would anyone in its right mind want to follow you?" And I've wondered about that and wondered how you do it if you wanted to. Thank you.
OK. It looks like you click on their profile picture. A box comes up with their picture and some blue letters across the top. One of the words is "Follow" . I didn't click on it but if you click on it, I think you will be following that person. I don't know what good it does.
Well, now, thanks for that. Funny, a short while ago while i was still in the wondering state about this dilimi, I looked at one of those boxes, studies carefully, got the ole magnifying glass out and looked again. Didn't see the word follow. Looked just now after your instruction and sure enough, there it was. Now can't remember why I wanted to know. Thank you Shirley. You are as handy as a pocket on a shirt.
I've never done it either but I've got followers on other forums. I just presume it lets them know when and where you've posted... I could be wrong.. I actually take it as a compliment that someone is interested enough in my posts that they want to read them
What it does for me, is to show me when that person is online, and shows their avatar and not just their name. However, if that person has decided to make everything private, then even if you are following them, it does not show me when they are online. Other than that, I have not seen any difference in whether I follow someone or not. It does not give me any alerts when they post, or anything else that I can see.
I don't know if I should feel comfortable, being "followed". 'Course, OTOH, if it's meaning remains murky, it matters less. Followed by a man with a gun, well........say, if a variety of folks are moving about a public place, the one behind another is following...........here where we live, it's legal to carry a lethal weapon, concealed or otherwise, by any state resident having no criminal record, so it's very possible the "follower" may have a gun, but no one knows but he (shiver), just keep telling yerself, "I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid", over and over. Frank EDIT: Now, I just realized something: in places where folks practice being naked, carrying a concealed weapon requires a paper bag, or something..,......
