Credit cards here always launch their promos during the second half of the year. For a purchase of such amount, you get some points that you can exchange for free items. Last year, one credit card had a freebie of chocolate cookies - we had redeemed tons of it that we gave away to neighbors. This time I am collecting points for gift certificate of a known brand of clothing. I already have points equivalent to $300 that I can use to purchase in that store. There are more promos to come.
We once had a credit card similar to that but it was a big ripoff. You could accumulate points and get a discount at their store. If you had enough points you could get an item that sold in their store for say $300 you could buy it for $200. Problem was you could go just about anywhere and buy the same item for $150, no points needed. Buyer beware!!!
I just put a large charge on my credit card for my truck repair and was gonna apply for another card that would let me transfer the balance and pay it off over time (12-20 months) interest-free. I found quite a few with that offer, but they all charge a Transfer Fee of 3% to 5%, which takes the edge off of the benefit. If anyone knows of a card that does not charge a transfer fee, I'd like to hear about it.
