Ok, this is for anyone that might have done this, or could help me find out how to do this. I gave a Kindle to one of my friends so I could help her learn a bit about being online. (Yes me, the tech zombie.) So of course I asked her what she might like to read. I thought that might be the best way for her to get use to using the Kindle. She told me that she really doesn't read anything other than her bible, and she wondered if I could help her download the Bible. Since I have never seen anyone that had done this, I thought my SOC friends would be my best chance of learning if I can, and how to do this. I then started to wonder if there might even be Christian based games that she could download and play. If this can be done I'm sure some apps are better than other, and you folks probably know the best ones out there. My friend is a Baptist, and when I asked her which bible she preferred, she said she would like the NIV version, or the new King James. So dear friends, please enlighten me on which apps I should choose for her.
There are probably quite a few study apps for the Bible. The one that Bobby and I really like is called "E-Sword", and it is superb for using on a regular computer and even the tablet version is a great app. When you have the full version, you can download all sorts of different Bible versions, plus commentaries, and more. I am going to tag @Bobby Cole for this thread; because he is the Bible expert in the family. Here is the link for the E-Sword website, and from there , a person should be able to download it to whatever computer, laptop, or computer you are using. http://www.e-sword.net/ Edit to add: i did some more checking on my Kindle, and it looks like the version on there is called "mysword". There are also quite a few other Bibles that can be downloaded, and the ones I saw were free.
Hi Ina, you can just go online to a Bible study site, and access the Bible and Study helps. The two I like are https://www.biblegateway.com/ and my favorite http://www.biblestudytools.com/msg/ (Message Bible). They give you the option to choose from many different versions of the Bible.
Thank you both @Yvonne Smith and @Joe Riley. I actually have 8 different bibles in my home, plus my father's old family bible from the 1820's that I don't let just anyone flip through. They've always been laying around the house, so I never thought about them being online. Do you think there might be Christain bases games that can be downloaded. I know my friend teaches Sunday School to the smaller school aged children, and this might be a way for her to interact with them. I think I might like them as well. So I'm all ears if you might have knowledge on which are the better ones.
I think that once your friend learns how to use her new Kindle, she can just look at the apps for the Bible , and it will show her games as well as study apps, and then she can download whatever she thinks that she can use. I am not sure that a game app would work for a whole class of kids, since it is usually for one player. However, I don't play online games; so I could be way off base with that statement. Maybe @Ken Anderson has better advice about games for a kindle ?
Sorry. Other than Mahjong and Solitaire, I haven't played any games on my Kindle, and I rarely play Solitaire because the ads obstruct the screen.
I checked out the site that @Yvonne Smith suggested, and both of the ones that @Joe Riley provided. I think my friend Laura will like all three of them. I guess I was a bit too energetic yesterday, because I woke up around five this morning with my tummy screaming at me. When I get a spurt of energy, I tend to stuff as much as I can into the day, and then I have to pay the piper. But that works out for the best since now Laura's husband will be coming with her tomorrow so he can check things out too. So that will give me an extra day to check and see if there might be some Christian based games for her.
