The soup and cracker diet is not given attention but the dietitian told me it is a very nutritious meal that is not fattening so you don't gain weight. The best soup is one with vegetables and she even cited Campbell because their soup comes with carrots, potatoes and other nutritious vegetables.

When there is someone in the house hit by flu, expect the soup and crackers on the dining table. And when you see the soup and cracker and no one is sick, that simply means I am trying to lose weight.

Love a bowl of soup and oyster crackers, Corie.. One of my favorites is Campbell's Tomato soup made with milk and a big glob of butter and crackers. Chicken noodle when not feeling so good.

We had soup yesterday made with many vegetables from our garden. No crackers this time but I like them too.

Yes, there is nothing quite like chicken soup when a person is sick. Crackers can also be a good thing when person is ill. As for losing weight eating soup and crackers, does that go for all kinds of soups? I would think that some soups would be more beneficial then others when it comes to losing weight. For example, eating a vegetable soup would be a better option then say clam chowder.

I don't know that it's a diet that I could stay on long-term but when I need to lose ten to fifteen pounds, I can do that on a soup diet. As long as I eat only soup, pretty much any kind of soup, I feel satisfied yet lose weight. After a month or so, though, I start adding more solids foods to it until it more closely resembles a stew, and at that point it doesn't work as well anymore.

I don't think I can lie that long with that soup diet. There are times that I feel weak so I turn to fruits, fresh or even dried like prunes and raisins. The longest I can go on a soup diet is maybe a week, when I really need to trim for an occasion like weddings, hahahaaa. In fairness to soup diet, there are lots to choose to from even in restaurants particularly the Chinese restaurants that serve real Chinese soup. We also have here real Chinese soup in packets that all we need is to add one egg.

As for the solids, it is not added in soup but in replacement of the crackers. It can be a plain sandwich, say buttered or jam or cheese. Adding solids ot soup ruins the taste of the soup.

I've lost about fifteen pounds in the last few weeks on a soup diet. Of all the diets I have tried, this has been the most successful, other than Nutrisystem, but that can be expensive. Ten or fifteen pounds, though, is the point where it becomes more difficult. After I've lost fifteen pounds, that's when I am the most tempted to cheat a little, and cheating a little is a lot like deciding to have just one cigarette. Once I've done that a couple of times, it's all over until next time.

Although I call it a soup diet, it's not strictly soup, however. I allow myself a bowl of cereal or oatmeal in the morning, and I will include some fruit. However, it works best if I make sure that at least one of my three meals consist of a mostly liquid soup, such as broth or tomato soup, but my supper soup sometimes approaches the definition of a stew, because I add generous amounts of chicken, hamburger, or sausage, depending on what kind of a soup it is. Sometimes I'll include pieces of potato. I always start my soup diet out with a couple of days of eating only broth, though. In fact, I start every diet out that way. There's something about losing a few pounds in a few days that encourages a diet. This fast helps me to appreciate the bits of real food that I later add to my soup.

My problem is keeping it up. I just ate a handful of my wife's white baking chocolates, and that's the sort of thing that too often signals an end to my diet.

I went on a self improvement kick in my 20's. The goal was to go to college, quit smoking and lose weight. Did all three. Campbell's condensed soup was a big part of the diet. There is a wide variety and calories were only around 90 I believe.

Good job, Ken! I love soup but I'm not sure that diet would work for me. I like big chunks of crusty bread with butter along with the soup. :D

The food in the facility I live in is often appalling. I don't know why any dietician worth his/her salt would sign off on some of these menus. As a result, I'll often have a bowl of soup with a couple of organic 7 or 9 grain bread slices and call it an evening. My weight remains stable as I am leading a rather sedentary lifestyle these days.

Well Lois...I didn't assume you'd be doing strenuous workouts at age 87!:D
