I heard about some of this 3D printing capability, @Martin Alonzo ... I find the whole concept fascinating and can't for the life of me figure out how it's possible. :)

It's hard for me to get my head around 3-D technology. According to a documentary that I watched, it's possible to buy a cheaper 3-D printer and, if you had the plans and the necessary materials, you could use it to print a more expensive model.

I have yet to see an actual 3D printer coming up with a printed model. There was a video shown to us by one colleague where the 3D printer had created a gun using what looks like soft plastic for the material. The video claims that you can fashion a real gun with that 3D printed model which can be used as prototype. But there was this post in Facebook about an incredible claim that the medical field is using 3D printer to create human organs. But I don't believe that one.

I think 3D printing is so amazing. It is fantastic they can create prosthetic arms that used to cost a fortune for next t nothing. It is really something fabuolus and I am so happy that they are becoming more common. I knew they would have uses..beyond making coffee cups...and toys..A friend once told me that soon parents will be using them to make babies...LOL LOL.

@K E Gordon So, all the "fun" will be taken out of making babies! I wonder if the printers will be orgasmic?

@Martin Alonzo , this isn't about 3D printers, don't pinch me! But I've wanted to ask for forever and I'm finally remembering. Are the people in your avatar your family? The lady is very pretty and the children adorable. :)

Sooo, is 3D printing like that used in the Mission Impossible movies? I was fascinated when I first saw how replicas of faces were created but don't recall if the name of the machine was mentioned. OK, @Joe Riley, do your stuff;)

I will have to watch the video when I get some time. I follow a 3-D printing account on Twitter and enjoy the posts. It seems just about anything can be printed using a 3-D printer, and I've even entered a few contests to win one, figuring I could always sell it if I didn't want to use it. I don't understand the concept entirely, but I do like the idea of prosthetic parts and other things that could really change lives, being that easy to make.
