I'm looking for recipes to make my own protein bars. I get so tired of cooking, and I don't like buying bars since I am not sure of all the ingredients.

I'd like to learn to bake or maybe non-baked recipes, I don't know what there might be. I just want something with protein for sure, so I will buy the protein powder to add. The rest of some of the ingredients I'd like would be nuts, fruits like raisins, cranraisins maybe. And I do want to make them either chocolate or possibly yogurt covered. I'll use stevia instead of sugar, and unsweetened ingredients (that's why I'll use stevia).

Anyone else try to make your own "quickie" foods when you just don't want to make a lunch, and something you can eat on the go?

    Thanks for any ideas;) denise

No, I do eat Protein bars but I buy them. If someone would make them for me I'd appreciate it. :)

There's probably a whole bunch of recipes online but with all you said you want in them, including the protein powder I'm thinking the calories will be high. Also, even though store bought protein bars aren't exactly cheap, making them might be expensive too...unless you buy in bulk and know a cheaper place.

I get that you want them to be healthier than store bought and they probably would be.

My quickie healthy go to food is a low carb wrap. I found a low carb/low calorie spinach one that I like. For breakfast I put scrambled eggs, spinach, cheese in them. For lunch maybe a slice turkey breast and then fill with lettuce or other low calorie veggies. There's a huge variety of healthy things you can put in a wrap.

I also buy protein bars, and I enjoy one, or even half of one sometimes with my morning coffee for breakfast.
When I want a fast no-cook meal, I make a protein shake/smoothie. I usually have one meal that is a kefir and flax smoothie with a bit of fresh or frozen fruit in it.
Most of the foods that you wanted to put into a protein bar can also go into the smoothie, although I have not tried dried foods like raisins or cranraisins.
I have used fresh cranberries though because I really like cranberries.
During the summer, when the weather is hot , the ice cold smoothie makes a perfect quick and easy meal.
We get the whey protein powder to use in our protein shakes.
Bobby always makes one and takes it along to the fitness center when we go there to exercise, and I have done that sometimes , too, since I am usually hungry after working out.

Well if I make some I will have to send you some k, lol;) Actually I can make them cheaper than buy them, and know exactly what in them.

I don't worry about the calories, even though they can get high in the store-bought ones as well. The last I bought at the store were 3.99 for 6 but that was at grocery outlet so regular price is even higher. I also get my protein powder down there and get a way good price. You have to be sure and check expiration dates too though;)

I have to eat a LOT of protein for breakfast, and then I'll do a light lunch. I got used to eating large breakfasts, and now can't go long on a small one;) I do like the occasional smoothie after a workout as I don't want to eat, but a nice, cold smoothie is so refreshing;) I think if I bake the bars, I will use fresh blueberries maybe. I was thinking of throwing in some of my chopped walnuts, things like that. I will measure out everything of course, and then however many pieces I cut it into, divide that into the total calories to get what each bar is;)

Sometimes my body is just craving more protein when I really do a lot;)

That's pretty cheap, is it a box at Walmart? That's the lowest I've seen. I seldom buy the box because I like different ones so individual bars cost more.

No, we have a Grocery Outlet chrissy, I think there may be more in California. I know there is one up in Oregon, well, a couple I know of. Their story on how they do business, and are able to find otherwise expensive things, and greatly mark them down is in the link below. Only thing is, have the check expiration dates, and also, you can't count on them having what you want on a regular basis. Like if they have a great bunch of good butter, the next week or two, they may not have that brand again, read below about Grocery Outlet. I love shopping there, but like I said, it's hit and miss on some great things I otherwise couldn't afford.

Go down to "How We Do It":
    https://groceryoutlet.com/

Here's some listings that might be near you, or you can put in your exact zipcode to locate the nearest:

They also get variety packs at times;)

We had that store when we lived in Idaho, and it was a great place to shop, and they really did get some excellent deals on food, and even some non-food items.
I think that the closest we come to having a store like that out here would be Aldi's, or Save-a-lot, which are not quite the same as the Grocery Outlet; but they do get some good bargains.
We are not very close to either one of those stores though; so I usually just go to Kroger and get what we need from there.

The whey protein that we get has about 30 grams of protein in a scoop; so it is a good amount of protein, plus another 8 grams in the kefir.
On workout days, I often do not even eat breakfast at all and I seem to do better when I don't eat first.
Of course, by the time we have exercised for almost 2 hours, and get back home, I am hungry and want something to eat that is quick and easy; so the shake is perfect for me then.

I like Grocery Outlet also. especially their NOSH (natural, organic etc) section. You do never know what you will find there.

I've never made protein bars. I think a good place to look and search could be Pinterest.
