Th prmannt loss of th 5th lttr of th alphabt has com as a shock to most popl. But Profssor dward McKnzi of th University of Cambridg says that h's not surprisd. "With the incrasing us of txting the lttr fll into disus bfor any othr lttr. As th most frquntly usd lttr in th nglish lnaguag it was also th lttr which was commonly droppd in sms and txt mssags."

Whn askd if this was th start of a trnd h addd, "Ys, th nxt lttr w'll loos could b th lttr 't' as th scond most usd lttr - but I prdict that w will loos anothr vowl bfor w start loosing consonants. I anticipat th loss of ithr 'i' or 'o' within th nxt wkk or so. Mayb both at th sam tim."

The British Prim Ministr, David Camron, said that this would not hav any markd ffct on th so-calld "Brxit" issu and that th rfrndum would go ahad on th 23rd Jun as plannd.

From the Whit Hous Prsidnt Obama xprssd concrn at "th loss of this important vowl" and promisd to prtct all lttrs but spcially th vowls 'o' and 'a' to which h is prsonally vry attachd.

    L'Acadmi/ Français in Paris act/d with it's usual sp//d, /ffici/ncy and d/t/rmination to prot/ct th/ Fr/nch languag/ and, ind//d, all languag/s. "Il faut /tr/ practiqu/ , la cinqui/m/ l/ttr/ d/ l'alphab/t c'/st simpl/m/nt un/ symbol. Pourquoi pas adopt/er un/ nouv/ll/ symbol qui p/ut r/pr/s/nt c/tt/ l/ttr/?"

Translation : "Lt's b pratical, th 5th lttr of th alphabt is simlpy a symbol. Why not adopt a nw symbol to rprsnt this lttr?"

@Patsy Faye - or rather Patsy Fay ..... I do text but never use "text-speech". This piece of silliness was actually a dream I had last night - that the letter "e" was no more! I sometimes wonder about my thought processes - I need to have a chat with the voices in my head and find out what's going on in there.

The letter 'C' is not needed either. It has the sound of a 'K' or an 'S' at times. Keep them, dump the 'C'. And the letter 'Q'. It too, has a 'K' sound. Another letter not needed is the letter 'X'. Spell 'Extra' without an 'X'. Ekstra.
Of course, this would change the spelling of many words, but hey, if people can learn texting, they can learn new spelling.:)
