I find it fascinating as well as interesting how personal prejudices can try to be justified and explained by wrongful interpretation of different religious texts. I well recall during the American Civil Rights Activities of 1954/68 listening to some of the leaders of the KKK expound as a justification for their activities, different passages of religious script.

The 72 Virgins awarded to Muslim Martyrs is myth as well as other rewards promised to new Isis recruits.Personally, never in my life would I think that that two, let alone 72 virgins would be any kind of reward.
OK, Yes I know----there are good and bad Muslims, but it's my personal belief that unless the so called good Muslims contain or eliminate the bad Muslims, things will get worse. So Then---Will we see a reincarnation of the 1059 Christian/Muslim Crusades>

There are some that are predicting that the one world religion in the end times before Jesus Christ returns to earth...will be a combination of Catholism and the Muslim religions.
Although the 72 Virgins awarded to Muslim Martyrs may be myth to you Ren, to those who believe in this religion...it is not a myth but a very real reward that they will willingly give their life for.

Now having said these two things I will also say this that there are many who interpret their "Book" of their faith whatever it may be inaccurately, or for personal control, etc. I remember when many so called Christian husbands used the Biblical Scriptures on a wife's submission to her husband as a means to control and abuse their wives. And these same husbands never read their part about a husband should love his wife as Christ loved the Church or that husbands and wives were to submit unto each other as unto the Lord, etc. Others simply pick and choose parts of Scriptures that suit their purpose and just leave out the rest of the story... I'm sure these same kinds of things go on in all the religions of the world.

And there are good and bad people in each of the world's religions too. Biblically speaking, religious wars will continue until Christ returns. Because no matter what they name the one world religion they will be persecuting the Christians who believe in God and Jesus Christ and the Bible...until Christ comes back and rules His Kingdom.

With all due respect, I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

  5. I've heard it's called prooftexting- and while I wasn't too surprised to learn Catholics do not believe in doing this, I was a little surprised (in a good way) when I learned there are Protestant denominations that don't, either.

Catholics don't believe in doing this, because those in authority in the Catholic Church tell them they can't interpret the Bible, only a Priest, etc (in other words the Catholic church). can do it for them. Yet Biblically speaking, the Holy Spirit indwelling Christians is the one the Bible says interprets (helps you understand) what the Bible says.
