Have you ever been to Ala Moana Shopping Center? A tiny island Oahu has the largest shopping center inthe owrld Ala Moana Shopping Center. In 1959 Ala Moana shopping center was built 87 stores and 4,000 parking spaces. Today. In 2013 there were 290 stores and 70 delicious dinning spots. It has expanded as I went today, rode and elevator to CVS on the second floor of Ala Moana Shopping Center. An elevator to CVS? The elevator I rode to get my .75 Coral Tuna only Sunday price, is in the parking lot nearest to the bus stop that let us off. I walked from the bus stop and looked for familiar stairways to CVS and there was none. Instead I found an elevator in the parking lot, more stores extending from CVS and a bit of construction still going on at what we call Ala Moana. "I'm going to Ala Moana to shop today" is what is echoed throughout the decades that the shopping center was open. It's changed from the days long ago when I was a child where you could find McInerney's one of my favorite stores to shop at is gone now. The history of Ala Moana Shopping Center located here. The entrance from Keeaumoku Street is the only thing that hasn't changed, yet.

Today there is Nordstrom just to the left of this picture that you can walk through to the second floor riding an escalator. As you walk to the door of the inside towards the ocean, you'll be going to an entrance to a part of Ala Moana Shopping Center. If you've been to the Ala Moana Center a decade ago it's so different today that even I a resident who had not gone for just 6 months can see the many changes that is just making Ala Moana Shopping Center the spot to go to with the family. The other shopping centers has movie theatres, but Ala Moana Shopping Center is the largest shopping center in the world and no one else can say that!

Riding an elevator at Ala Moana Shopping Center with floors of parking to go to is so different from the parking lot we were accustomed to the 2 and a half floors of parking & the employee parking downstairs would be all we had in parking for Ala Moana Shopping Center once upon a time. This is just one elevator of many at Ala Moana Shopping center. I rode the one on the Ewa end of Ala Moana Center.

We got a Bloomingdale's and more. Ala Moana Shopping Center has a site to up-date all who want to shop at Ala Moana right here. There's over 340 stores and the new Ewa Wing is open now. Before Ala Moana just ended at CVS and Sears. Now it has extended and Sears has closed it's Ala Moana branch. The next time you visit Ala Moana Shopping Center you'll be pleasantly surprised with the modern amenities with elevators and it's ambiance of elegance!

Actually that's quite a small shopping centre tbh...there's many many more much larger.... for example one in Bangladesh... Bashundhara City mall has 2325 shops spread over 8 floors. It was the first shopping mall opened in Dhaka. The total cost of construction was estimated at $100 million

    ...and...

Located in Shiraz, one of the largest cities in Iran, Persian Gulf Complex is the biggest mall in the world in terms of a number of shops. It has more than 2500 stores spread over 450,000 square meters. The mall was opened in 2012.

..and there's quite a few more too...

I went to that shopping center one time Kristina. I was there in 2007 before I became poverty stricken...boo, hoo. It was exciting. I enjoyed shopping there. There were many of the same stores we have on the mainland, but some unfamiliar ones too. I bought a can opener with a totem kind of design there I think. It was just one of the interesting things to do while on Oahu.

Just today, one of the people who I'm driving around, who has lived in Hawaii, mentioned the Ala Moana Shopping Center and said that it was once the largest shopping mall in the world, so it's quite possible that when you heard that, it was true. I remembered this conversation and just thought I'd let you know that.
