Sadly, they are shutting down small farms and intensifying factory farms which are what is destroying the soil and us.
It would be wonderful if all energy could come from the sun and the wind. But what we need can't and we continue to destroy the oceans with garbage. Fixing the problems in the US does not fix those in the industrializing nations of India ,China, Indonesia.... and the wind blows from west to east in the Northern hemisphere. The people with money want more they don't want to save us. Look. there are plans to evacuate a few from earth as it dies because some idiots believe that will work instead of the true cooperation of people. (which can't happen if politicians are in charge)

Absolute nonsense that tilling the soil releases carbon. The crops grown on that soil more that make up for any CO2 released in tilling. The environmental movement did great things at the beginning, but they ran out of ways to gather funding, so they now have to create new crises at every turn. Has anyone heard of coating the icecaps with soot to warm the earth and prevent a new ice age? I'm sure some of you recall that. Has anyone heard about the ozone hole recently? That was at a turning point that couldn't be recovered but could be slowed if we got rid of Freon. The global warming nonsense caught on and has lasted longer as a number of people are still getting funding from the idea, and the climate was naturally warming for a while, so it appeared to be real, but that has now slowed and the volcanic releases of late appear to be cooling the earth. There have been a lot of new volcanoes have been discovered under the Antarctic ice sheet and they appear to be warming and causing the shelves to release. THAT could really raise the sea levels, although melting ice caps at the north won't do anything of the sort except if Greenland melts. All probably natural cycles that folks make money from if they can induce panic.

Do you mean the poisonous mercury filled light bulbs they made us buy and then would not recycle after they did not perform as promised?

By Maine law, I think we're supposed to drive to Portland or something to dispose of a bad CFL light bulb, and call in the state EPA or someone if one breaks. Of course, they all go into the trash like any other broken light bulb.

I wonder if it is the plowing under the natural plantlife that then can't use up CO2 to produce oxygen. (as in factory farming) Then, in depleting and washing away the soil minerals, the addition of ammoniated fertilizers and poisons, the microscopic flora and fauna can't do what is needed to replenish the soil, causing more deserts?

All that stuff doesn't help the soil, but the plant growth will still sequester CO2, although many of the crops may not be what you would choose to eat.

The Federal Council of Switzerland has published draft legislation, which outlines four tiers of escalating measures to conserve electricity and avert potential blackouts.

The first prescribes a lot of temperature restrictions for things like refrigerators and washing machines.

The second includes more unusual rules, such as the demand that heating in clubs and discotheques “be set to the lowest level or switched off completely,” and that “streaming services … limit resolution of their content to standard definition.”

The third foresees cutting business hours, banning the use of Blue Ray players and gaming computers, and also limiting the use of electric cars, which should be driven only when absolutely necessary.

A fourth and final tier mandates closure of ski facilities, casinos, cinemas, theatre and the opera.

All this electric stuff is just a big pipe dream. It does not surprise me in the least to see the same people that are so eager to push it start punishing people for the idiots own silliness or mistakes. I can't help myself so I'll just say it out loud, Utah is stomping the Trojans behinds, what a great way to have two good pieces of news in one evening.

Yeh, I've been watching, too. Utah caught fire in the 2nd quarter and they been throwin' gas on it. USC tacklers look like they they're afraid to hurt the ball carrier.

Back on topic: Looks like it's "lights out" for the Trojans!
