This thread is for everyone but I put it in the religious category because I don't want anyone of faith to hold back so as not to offend anyone. And also, I want to respect those who are not of faith to be able to choose not to see. Easter is firstly, a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and Life. But it's also about easter eggs & bunnies, birth & spring, songs & hymns, foods & traditions, quotes & scriptures, etc….and discussions are welcomed and encourage just as the visuals and songs.

May everyone enjoy a Happy and Blessed Easter!

Growing up, Easter was almost entirely a religious holiday, although not one of the major ones (to me) because, given that it always fell on a Sunday, we didn't get a day off from school. When us kids were young, there were the Easter egg hunts, and there were always some chocolate bunnies around, but there was no confusion over what the day was -- a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter services were at least twice as long as regular Sunday services, given that there were Easter shows put on by various youth groups as well. Easter was one of those holidays where we'd sometimes have a guest family for dinner, sometimes the grandparents, the pastor and his family, or the one aunt that I had who was single. Actually, I think she was widowed but I'm not sure about that.

Now, we have a special dinner, usually with ham; and, once in a while, we have guests for dinner here, but we don't otherwise do anything special for Easter. When we're up north, we would have church on Easter Sunday but we don't participate in any of the churches here in Millinocket. We do make a point of reading an Easter passage at some point during the day so that we don't feel like complete heathens.

My childhood Easter was an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Baskets upon awakening…and eat the decorated hard boiled eggs for breakfast. Then dressing up in new finery…including Easter hats. Daddy even bought us all orchid corsages one time but bought mother one every year. We would all get our pictures taken and then go to Sunday School at a country Church. I remember fresh white Lilies in the church. Then we would come home and have ham for an afternoon Sunday Dinner, then overdo it later eating our jellybeans and chocolates…and sharing with Daddy who had a real sweet tooth :)

This is my church for 6 years of my childhood (3 yrs in PA, 6 years in Colorado and Japan, then back to PA for 3 yrs). The name was…

Deep Run Presbyterian Church of Bedminster County:
