Latinos are defecting to the Republicans in droves, in part due to Trump but also as a protest to Democrat positions on things. I just never saw a big difference between Catholics and Protestants as to conservative or liberal. Lutherans, as an example, have conservative branches--Missouri synod and Wisconsin synod--and ELCA on the liberal side. I realize that is based on religious practice but political ideals run in a similar frame of mind. I think any prejudice against any denomination or religion is just plain stupid.
I think that until the abortion issue came up, Catholics had traditionally voted Democrat; but the ones i remember from back around the Kennedy years, were very conservative. Most people, Catholic, Protestant, or non-Christian were pretty conservative back then. We never had the kinds of ridiculous protests that we have seen from the pro-abortion supporters. Catholics didn’t even believe in birth control back then, so they were probably considered even more conservative than other people.
I think it is also stupid to run from a socialist poor nation to a republic and then vote to turn it socialist. I don't know how those from India vote [ the third largest group of immigrants] but I do know all other new immigrants vote socialist. Of course, the Jewish immigrants also vote almost entirely democrat, and they are from a 1st. world nation. If the religion comes here to change the culture of the nation, they entered then that is a problem, but that always happens once one culture has high numbers. So, nothing new under the sun. All empires fail sooner or later.
