I was positive that @Diane Lane had started a thread about this somewhere; but I can't find it to write in it, and so I am just making a new thread for it.
We go to the Dollar General all of the time. the prices are about the same as they are at Walmart for most things, plus there is always lots of places to park, and not have to make your way through crowds of people (in pajamas).
Yesterday, I looked Dollar General up online because I remembered (?) that it was mentioned that you could get online coupons just like Krogers has. It turns out that Dollar General has a mobile app, which I downloaded, and then filled out the information to be signed up for the digital coupons.

When you shop at the dollar store, and are checking out, there is a place to add your phone number, which is your membership number, and it credits you for any coupons that you have used when shopping.
Just like I do at Kroger, I loaded up everything that I thought I might possibly buy, so if I do get any of it, the coupon is there.
I hate clipping coupons and having to carry them, and hardly ever remember that I have those; but the digital ones are terrific and so easy !

I haven't gone to a dollar store in a long time. Seems I just don't need anything anymore. I would go there for gift bags because they were the cheapest there and those things can get pricey for something that will be thrown out anyway. Since Amazon though, I ship everything for my grandsons gifts through them, so no need for that.

I would also buy lots of cheap toys and puzzles and things like that for the grandsons when they visited, they were always excited and would run to the closet in "their" room to see what cheap crap I had, lol. Funny because at home they had all the expensive things and they would get a kick out of all the things from the dollar store.

They are too old for that now. :(

I don't have a Dollar General very close to me. I do have a Family Dollar, but my favorite is Dollar Tree, because everything there is a dollar. I think it's disingenuous to name a store 'dollar' anything and then have prices that go up to and over $10. I like being able to simply count the number of items in my shopping cart and that's the number of dollars I'm spending. It's less stressful than having to try to add things up as I go along, since I don't have a dollar to spare these days. I don't have a mobile phone, either, and I don't carry the tablet outside of the house. What I like about the Kroger e-coupons is that they're loaded right onto my loyalty card, which is always in my wallet. Does Dollar General have a loyalty card, or do you have to use the mobile app? When I had my iPod Touch (which was a lot smaller than my tablet), if the store had wifi, I could have done something like that, but it just wouldn't work for me with my current situation. I wish there were more actual 'dollar' stores and I wish the 99c store a few towns over was closer to the house.

The way Dollar General works is that you go online and sign up for the digital coupons. You can either use the webpage or the app, I think. I signed up on the webpage and then chose the coupons that I wanted right from the webpage.
I did download the app; but I haven't done anyhing with it since I downloaded it; so I have to look at it better now that I am signed up, and see what all it does.
To use the coupons, you do not need any kind of loyalty card. You just use your phone number when you pay for the items, and that automatically takes off any discounts that you are registered for.

I like Dollar Tree the best, too, @Diane Lane , and I totally agree that things at a dollar store should be a dollar. However, most of them are now like small walmart-type stores, and I do like that I can go there and get something for the same price that I would pay if I went all the way to Walmart.
We don't have any Dollar Tree stores real close to us; but they did put in a new one and it is on the way to Harbor Freight; so it would not be out of our way to stop there on the way back home from Harbor Freight.

I have a 99 cent store in Fresno and it's near Fresno State, and it has lots of things probably because of all the college students nearby. I used to go there a lot and prefer it to any of the dollar ones.

Ah, o.k., so I wouldn't need to worry about using an app in store or scanning a device? I could just give them my home phone number to get the discounts, as long as I'd pre-loaded the coupons onto my online account? That sounds do-able, thanks. There is one in the next town over, but I don't go that far, at least until I can get the car fixed up. Harbor Freight is even farther away, so i haven't been there in quite a while.
