I remember when 'What would Jesus do? was very popular especially for the young and younger folks, myself included. I often was faced with making several moral decisions. The decisions weren't a problem but the effects of them were. I would see ugly things unfolding right before my eyes and hear things that made me wonder if I did the right and moral thing. Now you rarely hear anyone use WWJD.
It was a fad as far as the commercialization of these initials on wrist bands, Tee-Shirts, banners, etc. But for Followers of Christ... asking "What Would Jesus Do?" in situations is a natural part of their lives. True followers of Christ know that the moral decisions they make are often going to clash with those of the world and they will go through trials and tribulations because they have chosen to do what Jesus would do. So the buying and selling of the slogan WWJD was a fad for many... but the question itself is something ever Follower of Christ asks in every situation.
I think the acronym was a fad but the meaning will always be a great way to self-check yourself everyday with how we should live our lives. The thing is, Jesus is with us 24/7, sitting next to us while we're typing on the computer, etc. It's a real eye opener when I remember this. It was a fad, a way to make money for some. Everyone knows right from wrong, without the need of a figurehead to follow. You could just as well say what would Sam do The real question should be what is the right thing to do. You don't need a religion for that.
I guess the question would be, what do you base what's right and wrong on? The Bible is is a perfect "handbook" for knowing for sure if something is right or wrong. Especially Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament after Jesus' birth.
