Not to get to "off-key" from the thread here, Susan, but wife and I have always run into some type of noise problems in both apartments we've lived in and even in our own house.

Some people in a second floor, and higher, apartment, just don't seem to care about the neighbors below them. And, next door neighbors can be the same way. People that have to sell their house for some reason/reasons, and move into an apartment, just seem to think that they can live the same way in an apartment as they did in their house. Noise, noise and more noise! Actually, I wonder how the noise is inside/outside 55+ Communities. Sometimes, loud rap and hip-hop music can be heard from cars driving out of our complex. A lot of the younger generation just seem not to care how loud they have the music they listen to.

But, then again, with Seniors that were at Woodstock or other wild concerts, back in the day, many of us loved loud music also.

My SIL, wife's sister, is a lower-keyed type person and, sometimes, we barely get along with her. My wife has told me numerous times in the 20 years we've been married, "I'm sure glad that I didn't marry a low-keyed, quiet type guy!"

Basically, if a person wants/requires quietness, they have to live in a house on a large piece of property that is a number of miles from their closest neighbor. But, then again, I do think 55+ Communities are very strict about noise.

    Me, too.

I have had women drag me to the dance floor, and when they see how damned uncoordinated I am out there, actually apologize for having put me in that spot.

I can't decide if I think dancing is stupid because I can't do it or because people look stupid flailing around merely for the sake of flailing around. (Actually, I know which it is.)

I would never even try to get up and dance Too Shy. too embarrassed, however I would do a slow dance I did try to twist a few times. But I really like to watch good dancers. Few years back my daughter belongs to the group of swing dances that my wife and I went with her 1 Saturday night to a place called the barn. The dancing that night was really enjoyable to watch with the backflips I mean it was just amazing.
On a professional level I can watch Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire all night.

Yeh, I'll slow dance. I'll do polka and square dance as well because there are steps. Just don't ask me to free-flail.

Your story of watching good dancers reminded me of the gymnastics competitions I've seen. I dated a woman who taught gymnastics (and had been involved in high school & college) and we attended a few high-level competitions (McDonald's Gold Cup was one of them.) It's amazing to see people do gymnastics (or dance that way) in person. It's so "real."

Watching couples do a good country-western dance, as in 2-Step and Texas Swing, is what we do now. Line Dancing isn't as popular as it was back in the 90's, but if a Line Dance is being done, where we are, my wife might try it.

I use to by shy, when it came to going to a nightclub. Then, one Saturday morning, looking in my bedroom mirror, I said to myself "you have to stop being so shy! You're definitely not going to meet any lady being this way. You have to learn the dances also." So, I done both. Done away with the shyness and learned country-western dances. Heck, I got so good, I would sometimes have a lady ask me to dance.

    I would've never/ever met my wife if I would've stayed shy!

I guess Chubby Checker's "Limbo Rock" from '62 doesn't qualify as a dance.

Oh man, how could I forget this one from '59. Listen to the lyrics. He mentions several other 50s dances in them, e.g., cha-cha, chicken hop, the walk.

The way we did it was a form of a dance the large Circle people clapping and wiggling until they got to the pole and then they would take a few steps of a dance move and try to bend far enough down to get under the pole in Rhythm to the music. Was as much as a dance as the bunny hop actually we danced to the Roo Roo kangaroo song by Les elgart.
