You and I pay for this absurdly unnecessary testing schedule at Lon's place!

Ok, look at it this way folks, where Lon lives is now allowing visitors wearing masks. Now, this living facility don't know who these visitors have been around before visiting Lon's Assisted Living place.

It has already been stated that there are people who have had both vaccines haven't waited long enough, after getting #2, to get around others.

Lon's Assisted Living place is only trying to be careful and protect their residents. Remember, their residents are older than many of us on this forum.

Here's a recent post from our Ex Director.'
Dear Oakmont Residents and Family Members,

I hope this letter finds you healthy and happy. As I announced in the update of February 18th, we had one staff member test positive for the Covid-19 virus. The Fresno County of Public Health has advised us to test all staff and residents. We have started the testing today. We will not test anyone that has tested positive in the last 90 days.

A few important reminders about visits to the Community:
    • Only essential visits are allowed in the community at large. These must be discussed prior to visit.
    • Family or friend visits are allowed by appointment only in the Bistro or Patio areas. Please call the Concierge to book an appointment. This allows us to ensure that we can maintain proper social distancing and sanitation between visits.
    • Dining with a visitor is still on hold. We are following the guideline from Fresno County.
    • Surgical masks must be worn by all team members.
    • Masks and PPE must be worn by visitors upon entering the community and throughout their visit. Visitors who do not wear their masks or PPE appropriately will be asked to leave.
    • Residents must also wear masks appropriately in all common areas, or when in the proximity to others.
    • Routine sanitation of all high touch surfaces occurs twice daily at a minimum.
    • Social distancing of 6 feet between individuals is required in all common areas, unless persons are from the same household.
    • Residents who leave the community will be screened for symptoms or exposure upon return; isolation is not required unless exposure is reported or symptomatic.
    • All team members and visitors are screened daily for fever, COVID-19 related symptoms or exposure prior entry to the community.
    • Residents are monitored twice daily for fever, exposure, and COVID-19 related symptoms.
Thank you for your support and understanding. We are all experiencing Pandemic fatigue, but we cannot let our guard down. The Pandemic is still very active in Fresno County and hundreds of people are being newly diagnosed with the disease daily. I have attached the lasted statistics from the Fresno County Department of Public Health page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

    Warmest Regards,
    Heidi Setty
    Executive Director Oakmont of Fresno

OK, I could start another thread, but I'll stay here, for now, with this:

In view of all of the money to be made in the CV19 business, do you honestly think anyone riding that gravy train wants a cure to be found?

The vaccines are imperfect. NOBODY knows if they'll give long lasting immunity. As best I can find, you'll need to get them every six months. I can almost hear the cash registers of Pfizer, et al, ringing up mega-billions in vaccine sales.

The CV19 testing industry is also big business. With Lon's place in mind, there's mega bucks to be made just testing folks as often as possible. I now understand why so many testing tents went up in my town, overnight.

This, unfortunately, brings to mind The Big Cancer Machine (BCM). If a true cure for cancer was found, mega billions would vanish from the coffers of all who have a vested interest in prolonging this scourge. Why bother finding a cure?

Yeah, one way or another, I'm afraid CV19 is here to stay!

Well, Trevalius, Lon can't do a thing, other than leave for good, about what this living place has told him.

From my previous medical experience, as both an EMT (back in the later 70's) to working for a Senior Healthcare Company for four years, I really don't see what you see going on. What I'm seeing is people trying to keep folks, young and old, from getting CV19. It's not a very nice sight to see someone in ICU on a respirator breathing and trying to live.

Whether it's the CV19, that some folks "think" is a big money thing and some folks definitely know it's not, or anything else today, there are many, many things that are about "money" today. There are old/older folks out there that can hardly pay for heart medicine, but they need it to stay alive.

For those that think this whole CV19 is a "money maker" for many, there there are those that don't think that at all.

If Lon wants to stay where he's living, he has to follow rules/policies set forth by this Assisted Living place.

You are missing the point. TG's objection is the frequency of the testing, which is totally absurd when considering all the other preventative measures at the facility. I'm being treated for cancer at a huge medical facility and have only had two Covid tests since January 2. (Which were billed at $580 each to my insurance/Medicare.)

No matter what Lon's Assisted Living place does, concerning the CV19, he has to follow it. And, as for me, I totally understand why.

There are many of us that can think of hundreds of things we'd rather spend our money on, rather than healthcare, but "it is what it is".

No one is suggesting that Lon has a choice of following the program that Oakmont of Fresno makes him do, @Cody Fousnaugh . The discussion here is about why the retirement home is forcing people to be tested with such ridiculous frequency, especially when all of the patients and workers have all had two rounds of vaccine as well as several tests for covid.
Doctors and hospitals charge a lot for those tests, and like Beth and TG pointed out, some of that is covered by private insurance, and the rest is government funded, which means that the rest of us are helping to pay for nursings homes like Oakmont to overcharge for covid testing.

Well then, Yvonne, perhaps Lon needs to ask them this, or someone who is interested in the "why?" of it, call the place and ask. Going back and forth about the "why?" isn't doing anything, other than pi**ing some off and annoying others.

But, if you folks want to keep the "why?" going..........go for it!

    Really?

I don't know why I envisioned a larger campus than that, sort of like an apartment complex.

Well, heck, you know everyone pretty well, don't you? It's more than just merely recognizing each other. You're the population of a typical classroom.

Residents die, come and go for various reasons. This is the smallest number since I moved in January 2017. I suspect that once the COVID threat subsides we will have more residents.
