A man in Russia who has an incurable muscle-wasting disease is volunteering for the first-ever full head transplant. The man is 30 years old, and in good health except for the muscle wasting disease, which does not give him much longer to live.
The article says that there is already all of the technology that doctor's need to do the head transplant, and they have apparently already done this procedure on both a monkey and a mouse. It is not clear whether either survived; or how well the operation worked if it was successful.
The operation would be at least a year away, and the body donor would be a person who was in good health but was braindead.

Although they do at time have stories that prove to be true, I don't believe everything I read from the Daily Mail. They are a bit like the National Enquirer, which has broken some stories, by the way.

Scary. Imagine walking around with somebody else's head! That'd be awful...I shudder to think about it...

True, the Daily Mail doesn't have the best reputation, does it? I try not to believe all their sensationalized rubbish. People around here tend to call it "The Daily Fail", haha. :)

I think it would be more a case of walking around with somebody else's body. I assume the combined person would retain the personality of the brain that came with the head, and thus the body would be the donor. Makes me feel real weird just rereading what I've just typed.

This can also be found in Wikipedia; so it is not just another one of those sensationalist stories with no truth to it.
While I can see that the recipient would want to take the chance on dying in order to possibly be able to lead a normal life, the idea still seems like something that should not be happening except in the Frankenstein movies.
Maybe it is just because that has really been our only exposure to something like this, we have that subconscious picture in our minds.

Yes, I had heard about this and thought it was interesting. I can't blame the man for wanting to volunteer, he probably feels that this piont that he has nothing to lose. I wonder if this will be successful, it it is it will certainly take medical science to the next level. As for the individual whose body is being used, well as with other transplants it will be someone who is clinically brain dead and is an organ donor. So, they will be technically dead but their body will be kept alive by machines at that point.

Stay out of the medical system because once your in their grip they know all about you and some day in the future when some billionaire needs a new body your doctor will call you and say it's time for your check up.
In the process there will be an accident.

And I thought I was cynical about doctors!

I believe a lot of them don't care as much about their patients as they should, but it would take somebody extremely evil to do such a thing and I don't think there can be too many doctors who fall into that category.
