I remember in elementary school for music we were given cardboard piano boards to practice with. It was much easier than the real thing but we all had an opportunity to display what we could remember. I've always wanted to take lessons but my mother couldn't afford it. So when I got older I purchased a keyboard and one of those teach yourself how to play the piano books. Is there an instrument that you play or wanted to learn to play?
When I was a child my parents sent me for piano lessons, then later I learnt to play the guitar. I was never really dedicated to either though, and didn't put in much practice so I was never really good at playing music. Today I'd virtually have to start from scratch if I wanted to be able to play either instrument.
I have always wanted to play the piano. When I move into my own home I hope to get a piano and take lessons. That is one thing on my bucket list.
I can play just about anything I put my hands on but not very well! About the only thing that I am having a hard time with is my homemade wooden flute! The holes are on one side and the place you blow over is on the other. I can't get one sound out of it but my Thai friends seem to have been born with it and can make music with it!
I was given basic piano lessons when I was a child and in my teens I taught myself (with the aid of a book) to play acoustic guitar. I've made no attempt to play a musical instrument in decades but I intend to start again, when I retire, with a simple stringed instrument.

I play very simple, basic song with my ukelele. As you know, the ukelele is a very happy instrument and it gives me a lot of joy. So I am my best audience!
When I was in school, my mother wanted me to play in the band, and I learned to play an e-flat alto horn, which looked like a smaller baritone horn, and was treble clef. I could play it, but not well, and never really enjoyed it. My passion was organ music. My mother had an old antique pump organ when i was very young, and I loved to play it and try out all of the different stops. I also loved the calliope that they used for a carrousel, which is very similar to organ music. I used to have one of those organs that are easy to play because they have all of the gadgets on it that can almost play the instrument by themselves. I had to leave it when we moved from Idaho to Alabama; but I just loved it when I had it. Another instrument, and one that i highly recommend for anyone who wants something that is easy to learn and play, is a Suzuki Omnichord, or the new version, which is called a Q-Chord. Mine was an older Omnichord, but I really enjoyed it. You just push the button for the chord you want, and strum the keyboard. It is kind of like an electronic autoharp; but has all of the background accompniments like a keyboard has. I'd really love to learn to play an instrument. This post may have actually inspired me to try. For too long have I made excuses about not having time, or being too late to learn now...I should do it. For the experience, for saying I tried if nothing else. Now I just need to decide what I want to play. I always liked the piano when I was younger, but maybe a keyboard would be cheaper to acquire.
I was looking at the local Senior Community Centers and found a class for lessons just for seniors which I think I will start. I have been wanting to play the piano sice I was a kid. The center had some very interesting classes.
I had a quick look at their demonstration video and it looked quite intimidating. I'm sure that it's a lot harder to master the Q-Chord than they let on.
