Hey Bobby: Instead of your "prayer" list, just put me on your "hope" or "wish" list! Six million Jews prayed for their lives, but died anyway. So did the 1500 on the Titanic.

My dad wasn’t even given a week to live when he had cancer in his brain. lymph nodes, lungs etc. I (and others) prayed for him and by the next day the doctors were asking what happened to the cancer. It was gone.

Don’t know what happened about the prayers during WW2 or what happened on the Titanic. My name isn’t God. I’ve witnessed way too many things happen due to prayer in my life and will not discontinue what I and others have been doing on the behalf of other people.
*Just a question: If prayer didn’t do any good for those you mentioned, what good would hope or wishes do?

Ya know, even most atheists that I personally know would take my post with a grain of grace but then again, you aren’t in any way like the atheists I know. They know and understand that most prayer is a selfless ordeal and it means that the person who is reaching out to God, is reaching out in their behalf.

Too bad that you cannot receive prayer like any other gift whether you like the gift or not and simply say thank you.

OK, Bobby...thank you for including me in your Prayers! (That cancer might have cleared up with Hopes and Wishes, too!)

Yes...Cherries in any form contain some chemical compound which tends to neutralize Uric Acid. Thanks for the input, Betty!

President Taft (1909-1913) Had a 12-oz steak every day and was so consumed with gout in both feet that he had to be carried around on a door by White House aides. He also weighed 340-350 pounds and once got stuck in the White House bath tub and required several persons to extricate him!

He was the President during the 1912 Titanic disaster.

I know you use cherries but have you tried an anti-inflammatory such as naproxen sodium like Aleve or even bromelain which is found in pineapple?
According to some of the reports I have read in the past, an anti-inflammatory does pretty good with gout.

You need to give the cherries a few days, take maximum dose then you can go down to one at night

Here’s the reason I asked Hal.
Cherries contain a high degree of fructose and fructose is one of the no-no’s when a person has gout. Anything with sugar of any kind is bad for a person with gout, heart problems, migraines and a myriad of maladies including...yes, Alzheimer’s.

Naproxen Sodium (Aleve for one) is an anti-inflammatory which will help ease the pain even if it doesn’t help cure the problem. Pineapple on the other hand, is great for inflammation but not so good for gout which is why I asked if you were aware that Bromelain, (the anti inflammatory ingredient in pineapple) also helps with the pain and you can purchase it in capsule form and rather cheaply too.

    Hello Bobby!

I have just recovered from my 3-pronged Gout Attack!

It first settled in my left hand, then my right hand, then my elbow, but one-by-one I have recovered from each attack through my successful combination of the drug Allopurinol, my Wife's role as Nurse and Dietician, and finally through the magic of Cherries in various forms!

Contrary to being a "no-no", in my experience Cherries have always been a reliable source for neutralizing Uric Acid, which settles in the joints in crystalline form, making joint movement extremely painful.

Fructose sources may be bad if a person is suffering from Sugar Diabetes, which I have never had, as attested to by my semi-annual physical exams, where my blood has always tested as normal. I have never had a migraine episode in my life either!

Aleve as a pain-killer is not recommended, because it isn't compatible with the gout issue, where Ibuprofen has worked just fine for pain relief. My wife worked for many years as a Medical Biller, which has made her familiar with many drugs for use in surgical and other medical procedures, and she has acquired a large library of medical books which are great medical references.

Sugar in all forms has always been a pleasure for my consumption, as I love sweets from all the Sugar families, such as Fructose, Lactose, Glucose, Maltose, and Dextrose!

It can never be too sweet for me!

    Cheers,:)

So far as Aleve not being comparable with gout do read.....https://www.goutpal.com/3046/is-naproxen-best-gout-cure-for-your-pain/

Now, the fructose issue do read on....https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/all-about-gout

My wife gets gout flare ups and so I did a fairly large study on it and those examples are only the tip of the iceberg.

The whole sugar thing is a non-issue then because you will not do without it so you’re going to keep having problems. Have a good rum and coke Hal......lotsa sugar but not so great for memory retention.....or gout.

    Thanks, Bobby.
A recurrence of gout after 10 years is not what I call an ongoing issue.

The thing is Hal, you’re not the only one on this forum who either has gout or is going to experience it at some time or other.
My response wasn’t all about you necessarily but a well researched response for OTHERS as well as you.

If you do not wish to alleviate the inflammation thereby feeling less pain, it’s up to you but i am sure that other folks will need that information at some time or other.
Note: I realize that ibuprofen and acetaminophen are good over the counter pain killers but they only help mask the pain whilst attacking the liver. The inflammation or rather, the cause of the pain is still there but again, do what you want to do.

If you wish to gouge yourself on sugar, that again is up to you but just about everyone on this forum already knows that sugar is the most common and greatest disabler that a person can consume so my response was a reminder that even fructose can be harmful for those with gout.
You would do well with cherry supplements but you like cherry cobbler so cherry cobbler it will be with the rationalization that it is going to cure your gout. According to all the studies I have read....it won’t but that is your choice.

Everything is a choice and no matter the age we still have choices and one of the choices we all need to make is to live well no matter how long we live. Whether it is gout or hemorrhoids or acid reflux or whatever, if we have a way to either prevent those occurrences or treat them no matter how frequent or infrequent they are, we all will live better lives.

Note 2: I will write it again. The true definition of a rationalization is to tell a rational lie. We rationalize that such and such is good for us when in fact, it isn’’t. We just like what we are doing and make excuses that sound good in order to have a clear conscience about the way we live. Worse yet, sometimes we try to convince others that we are doing the right thing but the problem is, “ya just can’t fool all the people all the time........”.

Just a note(not to sidetrack thread). Aleve is good for somethings but not very good for your kidneys. I've got kidney problems and was told to dump my Aleve.
