About a month ago my right hand index finger began to swell to the point that it was painful to flex it.

It looked grotesquely fat compared to my left hand index finger.

So my wife stocked up on Cherry Extract, Cherry Juice, Frozen Cherries, and put me on a diet eliminating Red Meats, Beans, Alcohol, and other uric acid producing foods.

Uric acid forms tiny hard crystals that collect in the joints, making them painful to flex.

Thankfully, I could still enjoy dining at the Steer and Stein, where I always order Seafood dishes anyway, as I can't cut or chew their steaks, no matter how cooked.

I can soon return to my tenderized Meats, Beans, and Alcohol, and I always have 2 Rum & Coke cocktails every evening.

Years ago I had an attack of Gout in my foot.

My wife cured it quickly with Diet and Cherries.

Gout is a localized deposit of Uric Acid crystals, usually collecting in a Joint, and becoming painful when touched or flexing the joint.

My original treatment was to eliminate Red Meats, Beans, Fish, and Beer, while drinking plenty of water to flush the uric acid from the urine.

Cherries in different forms, such as Real Cherries, Cherry Extract, Cherry Juice, Cherry Pies and Turnovers, and Cherry Soft Drinks all have something that neutralizes uric acid, so this is what I'm starting again today!

Ouch!!! sorry to hear that Hal, I had a colleague, a giant of a guy who was absolutely crippled with Gout. People think it's amusing citing overuse of alcohol, but it's certainly not that...it's a form of arthritis, and can make you very grumpy indeed

I hope you feel relief from the pain soon.

Personally I hope I never get it, I hate cherries!!

I don't have gout but I like cherry juice so I drink from two to three 32-fluid-ounce bottles of pure tart cherry juice a week, plus eating cherries often. I know people who have had gout and I know that it's painful.

    Golly Guys & Gals...Gout Gone!

It was the Diet and the Cherry Counterattack that conquered my Gout!

For the past 4 days I've had a bowl of Cherries with breakfast, taking my vitamins with Cherry Juice, eliminating Red Meats, Beans, Gravy, and Alcoholic Drinks, and drinking lots of Water that did it!

I was recently attacked by a case of Gout, something which I contracted and fought off 10 years ago.

This time it settled in my left hand, (originally in right foot), which forces me to type with my right hand only, which is OK, being right-handed.

When I first got it, I went on Allopurinol, (100 mg), and gave up the "Cowboy" diet of Read Meat, Beans, and Alcohol.

I guess I must have slipped recently and ignored my diet, although I still take the medication, but I've slipped on the Cherries, ignoring them in all forms, such as Raw Cherries, Cherry Extract, Cherry Juice, Cherry Yogurt, and Pastries containing Cherries.

(Cherries have something in their molecular structure that neutralizes Uric Acid, preventing their crystals from forming in the joints and causing pain when the joint flexes.)

I put a “like’ on your post not because you are in pain but the fact that the post was highly informative. Just as Yvonne brought red grapes to my attention regarding its attributes in fighting cancer, you brought cherries and their relationship with neutralizing uric acid to my attention and i will certainly do a little studying on the matter.

I really do hope you get much better soon and you are certainly on my prayer list. Be well and thank you again for piquing my interest in cherries.

We take a cherry supplement every night, couple of hours before bed. They are very worthwhile, I would
advise you take them again Hal

Yes, Patsy, I shall take the Cherry supplement before retiring, and have asked Judy to bring home some Cherries, if they're in season.

I meant to say "RED meat", not "read meet"...also I should have said "Beef, Beans, and Beer", the Cowboy Diet.

    Yowzah...
