This post, in a Coronavirus thread, led to a discussion of Massey, which is fine, but I broke it off to form its own thread since it departs from the Coronavirus topic. -- Ken Anderson

Who plays golf then in Massey?

"we do have a golf course in town"

That's why I was asking. It's certainly nice to have but also a bit unusual for such a tiny community.

Massey is small but it draws from other communities for items.. We seem to be like a hub for events..
We also have a HUGE provincial park for camping, picnic, swimming, cycling, trails for walking, and the chutes and rapids called, .. "Chutes Park"...
Google the village of .. MASSEY, ONTARIO .. and see for yourself...

I did and, among other things, saw the golf course. :) What google didn't tell me was the info you provided: that Massey is a kind of hub for events.

We have the oldest and largest agriculture fair in the north..
With our many lakes around, we have both summer and winter fishing tournaments..
Hundreds of kms of snowmobile trails that seem to end up in Massey.. That makes our village packed with winter snowmobilers..
Hunting season brings hundreds in our area..
Just to name a few activities....

We love it up here.. Quiet little place to enjoy life and by no means expensive..
The virus hasn't come up here ……………………….. yet ….

Absolutely.. it is the next road from Caddel along the Trans Canada.. There are several homes along the road and many Mennonites who have farms.. It is a gravel road (not paved) and it goes up for quite a distance.. It is farming country..
As you can see, the main road is the Trans Canada.. A simple 2 lane highway.. This view is taken heading east and the next road to the left will be Caddel Rd.
I realise it has a different name, but there are several places around here with weird names..

There's no reason for me to do so. I'm glad you like your place where everything is seemingly intact and nice. It's really good if someone has found their ideal place to live and enjoy life.

The bird's eye view shows that someone seems to have parked a bus or van on his premises presumably as a kind of garden shed, shelter, workshop, or something.

Thomas.. We absolutely love it up here.. Life is very peaceful, quiet, affordable, and very countrylike...
It is a small community of just under 1000 people with services for all.. Situated only one hour from Sudbury that has a population of about 1/4 million people.. The weather up here is perfect for us.. We like the winter as much as we like the summers..
At our age, I don't think we could of done better in choosing Massey to live.. Actually I know we can't...

One thing I forgot to mention...
Before buying a house in Massey, we lived for 8 years in Elliot Lake which is an hour almost north of Massey.. We left there because we were renting and wanted to own something.. Also Elliot lake was a uranium mining town..
Before that, we came from Montreal where I worked all my working days as a Commercial Investment Consultant..
We wanted a quiet life and we found a recently built A-Frame house in Massey with acreage.. We bought it..

Looks as though you made a good choice, Steve. I am a city person myself and while I'd love a vacation home in just such a setting, a life of it would not suit me at all. This is what makes the world go round I guess. Each to his own.
