I couldn’t find the fire thread Craig if that’s where I should have asked / mentioned the fires
The news is full of stuff about the rain / hail / damage but no mention of fires

A column of trucks carrying donated hay bales have been a welcome site this week in many country towns parched by a prolonged dry spell. It gladdens the heart to see this display of generosity during difficult times.

What are they planning to use the hay bales for?

    Well, that makes perfect sense.
Since you were talking about harvesting the water from the storms, for whatever reason, I was trying to consolidate hay bales with the idea of
    a water harvest. :D

Hay spoils if wet .. I may be wrong.
As I understand it, water harvesting is capturing stormwater before if flows into the ocean.

This is specially for @Bess Barber, @Shirley Martin and @Patsy Faye. Gals I can tell you that we Aussies are rejoicing this morning as our Eastern Seaboard has been hit by what the meteorologists are calling a "rare rain bomb". Specially pleasing is that our parched inland is getting welcome rains. Some large towns in our central west have not seen substantial rain in two years while many smaller towns are bone dry and have had to truck in water to survive. I was reading that small towns in regional Qld had their first rain in five years on Tuesday. The Met is saying some places may have had as much as 120mm.. That is a lot of water. As yet I have not heard whether our dams and reservoirs are having good falls over them. But from what I am seeing on the radar they are today and expect same in the coming days. If this does not douse the last of the fires.. nothing short of the Great Flood will.

Kidman Way between Cobar and Bourke looked more like a river yesterday.

How great to see the MUD after next to no rain in those areas for years ...and years ....wonder if that’s was the first time
the little one seen rain to make mud
Bourke and Cobar are very desert like / isolated areas for any who are not aware of the towns locations

Sounds like you’ve received or about to get more rain @Craig Swanson let it pour ☔️ ☔️☔️☔️☔️

Yes @Milla Jonas all weekend and beyond. Next we will be talking about floods such is our fickle climate. I mowed my lawn yesterday.. rather someone else did as my back can not longer take the strain. Dead set the grass was up to my calf after the recent enormous hailstorm. Yes let it pour ️ ️️️[/QUOTE]

For what it's worth, Nevil Shute wrote " In the Wet". He was a British novelist who later moved to Australia. I read some of his work.

It has been raining now solidly for 48 hours. Good falls over our reservoirs too. A conservative guess this 'rain bomb' as the Met is calling it..has added at least an extra 10% water capacity to Greater Sydney dams and reservoirs as well as those 10 or so in other parts of the state. It is hoped the government is capturing storm water for future emergencies.

Most thank you Shirley.. The mega blazes are now contained and close to being extinguished. The best thing is no new fires for well over a week. Our forests can now start to regenerate.
