    Here's the post I said I'd make, @Carlota Clemens

About a year ago I found a goldmine when it comes to books, and loved every single minute of reading. The author of the first bunch of Nancy Drew stories (Mildred Wirt Benson) wrote another whole series with a girl much the same as Nancy! Single father, housekeeper, etc.

(Side note here, "Carolyn Keene" was a collective name given to a number of writers who wrote the Nancy Drew books.)

Anyhow, I was poking around Amazon for Kindle books and found the series... her name is Penny Parker and there is a Megapack for Kindle... FIFTEEN of the Penny Parker Mystery books for ... this isn't a typo.... 99 cents. Ms. Benson only write 17 of them, and the other two are available FREE! So it's 99 cents for all 17 books in the series.

I was a little afraid that they'd seem too childish for me now, but... nope, I escaped from reality for a few weeks and got to know Penny. There were many times I realized that I may have liked it even more than Nancy Drew. Ms. Benson surely knew how to write those stories we loved!

If anyone's interested, just ask, and I'll pull up the names of the two free books to complete the collection. If you buy the MegaPack books, be sure to get the best deal.. like I said my Penny Parker one is 99 cents and I'll give the link if anyone's interested.

So you only have to park 99 pennies for 17 Penny Parker's? WOW!

Well... yeah, that's one way to put it, @Joe Riley :) Makes an excellent tongue twister, yeppers!

Those MegaPacks are amazing... I got a bunch of them last summer, too... one of them was "Girl Detective Stories"... these were books from the 20s and 30s. I find that I enjoy the vintage books so much more than newer stories of certain genres. Usually ten to twenty books all in one Kindle download and very often for 99 cents.

Hey Joe, how much wood would.... no, don't answer that! :p Oh wait! A better one! What if we got Penny Parker together with Peter Piper. She'd be Peter's Penny Parker Piper picking pickled peppers with Peter. Stop me!

You're very welcome. It truly surprised me that I liked them as much or better than Nancy Drew books, but I guess it shouldn't have considering it was the same writer... well, at least for *some* of the first Nancy Drew's.

I'm remembering how I practically camped out at the school library when I found out there'd be a new book in the series arriving. :D Well I couldn't have anyone beating me to it, now could I?! hehe

It looks as if perhaps the file supplies by the seller is corrupted, and Amazon is working on the issue. This is definitely something I'd be interested in, so I'm going to keep an eye on it. I like that Amazon gives related and similar items, and it looks as if there are some other good deals there, as well. I'm glad you mentioned this @Mari North, this is the type of reading I particularly enjoy when I'm trying to sleep, and when my pain is acting up, since it's less of an effort and more enjoyable than something more challenging.

The Nancy Drew series was also my favorite reading material in my elementary days. Later my taste in reading changed to non-fiction books till now.

I was surprised to learn that new Nancy Drew books are still being published (Hardy Boys books, too). I had thought they had both been done with for decades.

I don't know about the Nancy Drew books but, from review comments, it seems that, for those who had purchased the original Hardy Boys books on Kindle, Amazon.com automatically updated them later to remove what they had deemed as racist or insensitive material, so you can't really get the original Hardy Boys on Kindle. I don't know if that's true for the Nancy Drew series.

I have most of the early Nancy Drew, and one or two Penny Parkers and they are the original publications. I started collecting them since childhood. Oh yeah, there are some really offensive remarks, fortunately not many, in the early editions. Caricatures prevalent of the times.
