    It's been 3 years since I had an above-ground pool. I've had several: a 10', a 12' and a 15'.

Do any of you have a pool?

This summer I'd like to get an 8' steel-framed round pool, but wife wields a strong veto against that idea.

I could get one and realize that it's easier to get forgiveness than permission!

If I agreed to service the pool myself, maybe she'd OK the plan. She hates pools, and has never been in one during our 25-year marriage.

An 8-footer would be for me only...just big enough to lay on a float and enjoy my Rum & Coke!

Yep I have a pool at my Casa in Spain.. ..the house is on a private gated community so the pool is shared , but hardly anyone uses it.. except me and a couple of others...

I don't have a pool here in the UK, but next door has an above ground one..

We have no use for a pool here, as our summers are too short and not warm (usually) anyway. We have lakes and ponds that can be used if needed.

Our High Desert summers last until mid-October or until the monsoons start.

@Hal Pollner My wife grew up in a house on a lake, and is a "laker" by her own definition. Impossible to keep her away from water:

Our 10 footer is as big as we can go, with 15 feet between the house and shop. The rock walls we built right after buying the place ensure privacy at either end of the 40-foot patio.

    Looks mighty relaxing, Frank!

I would get an inflatable, but our 2 dogs would probably rip the sides with their claws, so I'll stick with the steel-framed models.

Our warmest time (usually) is from mid to late May through mid-July when the rainy season starts. This year has been an exception.

Wife grudgingly relented...I can have my pool, as long as I do the periodic maintenance.

Although the pool will be erected on a smooth concrete slab, I'll still lay down a canvas tarp.

The first year, the pool rested directly on the concrete patio. Tiny specks of sand, aggregate, showed up here and there, sharp, and poking at the plastic, never puncturing it, but the following years we have used heavy drop-cloth plastic beneath it.

    I bought 12' x 24' x 10 mil ground cloth, making a 12' x 12' x 20 mil ground cloth when doubled, with the 10' pool on top.

    I also ordered a 10' x 30" Intex steel-frame pool today.

Enjoy your pool, Hal. As long as you keep up the routine maintenance it will be easy. We have an in-ground gunite pool, built in 1996. Maintaining it is a snap with weekly water testing, and running the automatic pool sweep.

Thanks Bess, yes it is I have to admit. It was actually the pool my husband fell in love with when we first looked at the house, irony in itself, because he doesn't swim... :D
