What do you think was the most important invention in the past fifty years? Why would you name that, and not something else?

I will, of course, offer my opinions later. I'd like to see what the rest of you think first.

It can be any kind of invention. Since most inventions are gadgets, I started the thread here.

One of my favourite 'gadgets' is the lens thinning on glasses...

I'm long-sighted, with a high prescription now in my autumn years , if I'd had to wear specs that were made as they were 50 years ago..I'd be wearing thick bottle bottoms styles like my grandfather ...thank goodness I can have very thin lenses despite my high prescription...

Hmmm. Most important would probably be the internet. It has revolutionized everything.

Having worked in an office environment for 24 years I would say the computer. It was the start of every thing digital today.

Kind of a tossup for me. Since the computer age started way back in the late 40’s thru the early 50’s I guess I have to rule that one out.
Soooo that kind of slims things down a bit.

Let’s see now. Between MRI’s, Oral Contraception, the DNA thing and Cell Phones I’ll choose...........The Pet Rock.
It doesn’t break easily, it’s environmentally friendly, there’s no moving parts, it doesn’t die, easy to replace if it gets lost and it makes those with little left in life to enjoy very happy.

radial tires. May have been invented more than 50 years ago but came into general use in the mid seventies.
Safety, longer life, less rolling resistance, better traction.
