This story is without a word of a lie. I still dream about smoking 20 years after I gave away the dangerous, filthy habit. When I wake I castigate myself for going back to the smokes. until I realise I have been dreaming. I still sometimes get a craving for a cigarette perhaps that explains the dreams.

Dreams are strange that way, I think. I often dream about my mom and dad, or that my children are still little kids, or other things that just don’t exist any more.
Your dream mind doesn’t know that smoking was unhealthy, and it probably thinks of it as something that you enjoyed when you were doing it; so I would not worry about dreaming about it.

I quit in the mid-1970s and I am still a smoker once in a while in my dreams. Not often, though.

Turned 60, eh? Consider the smokes killed my sister at 65, lifelong smoker, her heart gave up, as the lungs did not function anymore.

Best thing you may have ever done! A supervisor of mine told me he developed stomach ulcers, they removed 60% of his stomach, he quit, and still found himself reaching for his shirt pocket 20 years later when nervously irritated!

    Good for you!

I was always a pack a day man. Only smoked for 20 odd years gave em away early 40s..for the last 5 years I used one of those filters after seeing graphic pics of a tar destroyed lung. Australia was the first country to put graphic images of cigarette diseased organs on the packet.. as I understand it.

I worked with a guy who wanted to quit. He tried the then in-vogue nicotine patch, smoked anyway, and got quite sick! The patch, of course, was then dispensed with, but not the "coffin nails".

I used the patch. It helped.. reckon it was will power that won the day.

I quit 5 years ago. I struggle today just as badly as I did the first week I quit.

It was very easy for me to quit, being that I would only smoke a pack and half a week, if that. I started while I was in the Navy, but didn't smoke that much even when I was in there. Stopped for awhile after I got out, but then started up again, but still very little. In 1988, I started giving up smoking and started using Skoal Long Cut when I bought my first of two horses and got involved with rodeo. In 2005, I started noticing an irritation inside of my lower lip, so I stopped using the Skoal. Haven't used "dip" since, but there are times that I wish I had a "pinch" of Skoal to use.

When I smoked, I only smoked about a half a pack a day, more on weekends.

I was a smoker for ten years between 24 and 34 years old. At the same time I was a hypnotist helping others to quit. The day I quit it was very easy and two weeks later I started a diet and lost twenty pounds because everyone says they gained weight. I had an erg at three days then three weeks and finally One year and the one year was a dream only waking feeling very discussed in myself for smoking.

I gave up the weed in 1977, 42 years ago. I had smoked for 22 years.

It was easy, because I had a substitution crutch, which I use to this day!

Not to be flippant or disrespectful, but if it was so "easy" why are you still using the "crutch" 42 years later?

I smoked 43 years been quit for 5, it is a never ending struggle!

Peter, it was used as a crutch only temporarily. Now it's a harmless HABIT!

I keep a 35mm film container filled with JUJUBES in my pocket every day since I gave up cigarettes!

I went through a program to quit smoking. The guy doing the course referred to chewing gum rather than smoking as "chewing your cigarette," and to overeating as "eating your cigarette," and strongly spoke against that, saying that it would be only a matter of time before most people would go back to real cigarette, since they had never given up the habit.
