This Christmas was nuts for me, and Santa didn't leave even a piece of coal. So today I treated myself to a manicure. I'll have to cut them soon, their getting too long. I think I've taken every product out there to strengthen my nails, but nothing worked. Then they started splitting straight up instead of across, which was causing infections. A friend suggested that I have my nails cover with powdered acrylic. That way they are still my own nails, and they stopped splitting straight up.

Yes, the spinach will make you lose lbs. :)

Nice long nails, Ina. I keep mine short and have since my first grandson. Used to have longer nails but thought id scratch a baby so started keeping them short, now it's just easier.

My daughter has acrylic nails done in a French manicure ....she can't do the gels because she wears latex gloves working and the gel wouldnt last for some reason.

    I do get pedicures though.

Ina, next year spend all the money on yourself! That's what I would do.

It's not even the gift but the thought that counts, they should have gotten you something small at least.

That's an interesting ring, Ina...is it all one ring? Did you have it made?

Part of the large ring belonged to my grandmother, and the other half was my mother's wedding ring. So back in 1995 after they were both gone, I had them put together to make the one ring.

@Ruby Begonia , I agree, I bet it would be a lot more fun. Maybe if we start now, we can plan a really good Chrisymas party for next year.

@Chrissy Page , I designed the ring that has the colored gems in it for my grandmother when I was 16, and I had saved for it at least 2&1/2 years to pay for it. She was so special to me, she showed me the first kindness I had ever received. She told me I was artistic, but I didn't believe her for many years. At 41 I finally understood what she was telling me.

My Indian grandmother had never received hand made jewelry before, so she loved showing it off. When I add my mother's ring, it looked like a ballgown to me. I took my and my husband wedding rings and re-designed them into a ring for one of my granddaughter's in Atlanta when she married this year. It will remind her of us. We raised her from the age of ten, and now she is 25.

The Silver ring on my little finger was made out of a 1951, (the year I was born), quarter by an old boy friend when I was 12. You can see all the lettering of the quarter on the inside of the ring. The diamond next to it was my engagement ring that Michael bought me.

That would be much fun, Ruby!!

@Ina I. Wonder my engagement ring is that shape diamond also....I'll have to show you when I get home. The band part was thicker though and the diamond fits into the wedding band which makes it look like a bouquet ...if I remember right...I haven't worn it in a long time.

My grandmother was very special to me too, Ina.

I've given away most of my jewelry to family members, maybe that was the wrong thing to do. I do foolish things when I get depressed. Now it is like, "What else is there?". But I kept the pieces that matter to me, and the other at least went where I wanted.

It's weird, the older I get the more I look my grandmother, and think like her. Are you anything like your parents or grandparents?

I'm not at all like my grandmother, Ina. Only similarity is that I am loving and caring like she was.

I don't look at all like her....she had dark hair and I'm not sure of eye color but know it wasn't brown or blue.

Update....asked my sister and she said grandma had blue eyes....but dark brown hair as I remember.

Yes in answer to your question Ina...I'm getting to look more and more like my grandmother. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I just catch a glimpse of her in myself ...and I think wow...that's amazing, because in fact my Granny was ..as was the times back then, where grandparents were very poor and worked very hard raising many children..( 9 in my grandmothers' case, with an alcoholic husband)...very old looking at the same age as I am now..so really at 60 she looked as old as an 80 year old would today...and I like to think I look younger than my age..so it's really amazing that I see her in me!

I have a very old B&W photo taken of the family way back in the 50's when my granny was 58...if I can find it..I'll post both her and me at the same age...you won't see a likeness in them but you will see the difference in the ''look'' at the same age
