I wasn't sure if this should be here or in the political area because it's really both.

I - for one - hope they prosecute him and punish him for the crime he committed.

It's way past time for people who do this sort of thing to be held accountable.

What he did is unforgivable .. he made a mockery of the true victims of crimes like this and he pulled resources that are needed elsewhere just so he could make his dumba$$ political statement.

Not cool or acceptable in any way, shape or form.

We don't watch Empire, but a quite interesting article about his arrest. Lied to law enforcement and then his story, about what happened, was sympathetic to some celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres. After his arrest, none of his sympathizers had anything to say. Quite an embarrassment for them, but, then again, they were only going by what they heard about his filing.

The main stream media has made this guy their one main source for financing lately. There is nothing but Smollet going on and if there is I really haven’t heard much about it.
To tell the truth, I hadn’t heard of him until the media made him their hero. A beaten and torn gay black guy who was attacked by homophobic racist Trump followers at 2 A.M. on an icy cold morning.

I kind of get it. He’s tired of being persecuted by white people and feels that his way in life is hampered by Trump supporters and coupled with the fact that he’s a struggling homosexual, why, the poor dear just needed some psychological validation that he is indeed a human being after all and is only seeking to be loved.

Well, maybe not but that’s pretty much what I foresee his lawyers pleading his case will say. He’ll get off with a small slap on the wrist and the media will simply have to go back to slamming the president for whatever other reason they can find....or not find, whichever is more convenient and worthy of a few more bucks.

Wow, so, so true Bobby. Yes there are some things we totally disagree on, but definitely not this one.

The Chicago Police Commissioner made a speech really denouncing the guy for what he did. It basically said that, not only did he was everybody's time and resources dealing with a false and set-up claim, but his big crime was to make the victims of real episodes of this kind of behavior less credible.

He should be punished to the fullest extent that the law allows.

Think he has to a serve jail sentence over this because of his high profile.

Did watch The View where "Roseanns Daughter" defend this Racist action before she new all the facts.

Another case by the Left to stir up racist trouble

From what I've read, this was a staged thing by the guy and the brothers went along with it, until they were actually arrested.

Then again, this isn't the first time a false racial thing has been reported, so the person could get attention or something else. Heck, there have even been false police reports done by young girls claiming an "ex" done something to them, but the "something" never happened. People get upset with something, don't think about what could happen if they do something about their problem, and end up going to jail themselves.

Another interesting tidbit is that he sent a death threat to himself and that involves the feds with up to 25 years in prison for that.

He called the cast of Empire together, apologized for what has happened and said he was totally innocent of the charges, blaming the media and justice system instead. He was on the set of Empire yesterday.

Innocent? So, everything that has been found out about him, by detectives, is untrue?

And the “blame Trump” beat goes on and on.

I was listening to a talk radio station this morning and apparently some LGBQrstuvwxyz whatever newspaper is blaming none other than the president for Smollet’s arrest.
The [I didn’t catch the name] newspaper wrote that since the Chicago police union backed Trump and whilst Smollet “seemed” to be treated fairly by the police, in actuality the police didn’t believe him to begin with.
In fact, the newspaper outright reported that D. Trump might have paid the police and the two brothers to fabricate the opposing evidence just to have Jussie arrested because after all, the actor hates Trump and Donald doesn’t like that.

And now, for the umpteenth day in a row, the media and it’s continual use of a basic 3rd page story are able to highlight stupidity rather than report some real news.
Guess I am going to have to contact someone from another country just to find out what’s happening in the United States.

It's a shame that you have to rely on foreign sources to actually find out what is happening in the USofA. But the truth is that the world covers news in the US better than most of the media in the US.

Cody, He is innocent as yet. He committed his alleged crime in the United States. In the US we have something we like to call "due process". Everyone is "presumed" innocent untill found guilty in a court of law. Granted this guy"of whom I had never heard of" has an awfullly complete and concise string of evidence pointing toward his guilt, until the gavel comes down we as Americans are required to give him the benefit of doubt.
One thing that I did not like about this whole thing is the Chicago Police. By holding a news conference and editorializing their thoughts and conclusions they may have laid the groundwork for a malicious prosecution defense. A better option would have been to simply announce the arrest with out all the histrionics and characterizations.

I see this as a fine and community service crime and nothing more.
