Ocasio-Cortez has advocated for a progressive platform that includes Medicare For All, a federal jobs guarantee, guaranteed family leave, establishing a Green New Deal, abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, free public college and trade school, infrastructure projects for renewable energy, and a 70% marginal tax rate for incomes above $10 million

AOC's platform with free stuff might explain why AOC was elected.

Paying for free stuff. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess part of the funding comes from taxing the millions of Americans working the guaranteed federal jobs. This site provides wage tables. Really interesting how the wages change by location.

    Then there is this

"The number of Americans out of the workforce is misleading as a gauge of who is and isn't working.

For example, retired people are out of the workforce. They're not counted in the unemployment rate because they don't want a job. The same is true of tens of millions of Americans who are in school, or can't work because they are disabled.

So it's possible for the total number of people out of the workforce to stay more or less the same, even as the overall job market improves."

Once the ideals of socialism becomes the way the U S government works & free stuff is paid for, maybe illegals will no longer want to come to America. Why would they endure the hardships to reach the same kind of life they are trying to escape?

Well it seems to me if AOC and the Democrats can promise everything will be free over here...even more immigrants/illegals will want to come over here instead of less since most are coming because they want a more better life for their family.

I view socialism eventually becoming the way of governing in America as the form doing so well in Venezuela. Thus why would they travel to end up in the same miserable way of life.

Because the life they have is so much more miserable now. My best friend lives in El Salvador where people are really poor and they have no way of making a better life there. Most of us have no real idea of what it is to be really poor. It isn't that most of the people just want to come over here and get a free hand out (although some do)...it's that they want to be able to feed their families and have a decent roof over their heads and they are willing to work hard to do that. If America starts giving everything away for free...you can bet more illegals than ever are going to be coming over here....and Trump's Wall better be in place if that happens.

My understanding is the major problem in Venezuela is corruption. Corruption is more likely to be a threat to the U.S. than socialism right now, imo. If we continue to follow the Constitution I think we will survive this.

Decline in Venuezuela wasn't overnight. Nor would it be in America.

    Quoted from an extensive article.

"Some of the problems go back a long time. However, it is President Maduro and his predecessor, the late President Hugo Chávez, who find themselves the target of much of the current anger.

Many Venezuelans blame Nicolás Maduro and his government for the economic decline. Their socialist governments have been in power since 1999, taking over the country at a time when Venezuela had huge inequality.

But the socialist polices brought in which aimed to help the poor backfired. Take price controls, for example. They were introduced by President Chávez to make basic goods more affordable to the poor by capping the price of flour, cooking oil and toiletries."

The platform AOC was elected on if slowly implemented IMO lays the foundation for decline.

    How would it be possible?

    1. There would have to be funding of organizations for change in American politics.
    https://starrynews.wordpress.com/2017/08/31/206-u-s-organizations-funded-by-george-soros/

2.Society in America would have to depend on government for jobs. A platform objective of AOC

3.Open borders another inroad (eliminating ICE) a good start.

4.Millions that support free stuff. A voting block that wants & feels entitled to free stuff like those that voted for Bernie Sanders
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ers-than-trump-and-clinton-combined-by-a-lot/

If history is any indicator of how powerful societies have fallen. IMO there is a real potential for future political change to happen in America. I doubt I'll be around to see what happens years from now.

An example of how it would work to raise the minimum wage to $15, like Bernie Sanders has been advocating.
It is pretty obvious from this table that what would happen is that most Americans would only be making money that went to the government in the form of higher taxation, thus paying for the free college, food stamps for illegals, and whatever else he wants to give to non-working people.
So , even though , on paper, they earned a lot more money per hour, they would not get to keep it.
