Well this probably not in the right place but it does involve both science and nature, plus a little fun..... and creates pretty photos if you happen to be in such a cold place, though throwing boiling water around could be a tad dangerous LINK Temperatures of -40C (-40F) and -50C (-58F) in parts of eastern Russia haven't stopped people getting out and having some fun in the snow and ice According to the state news agency TASS, current temperatures in Russia are much colder than average for the time of year. Unsurprisingly, the trick of throwing boiling water in the air and watching it turn into ice - which was popular in North America during the polar vortex - has become a trend. People across the country have been taking part in the "Dubak" challenge, which is Russian slang for bitingly cold weather.
-23 F. just isn't cold enough to do it right. Kids at the university in Fairbanks do it every winter as a tradition, but they never attempt it (if they are smart) until the temp drops to -40 F./C or below. I am told that at -60 F. Even gasoline doesn't ignite well as it doesn't vaporize at that temperature.
Yikes, what if you were stabbed in the eye with a over frozen icicle ? But beautiful pictures of the happenings.
Occasionally people do get killed by icicles, snow and ice falling off roofs, but it is rare. I haven't heard of anyone getting stabbed in the eye accidentally with ice.
