Years ago when I was beginning my civilian life fresh out of the Navy I was having a hard time finding a job. Little did I know that the one I found would be the start of building a decent retirement account.

Not exactly a job working in construction, but close. I worked for a company supplying Job Johhny's to construction sites and major events. For those not familiar with Job Johhny's those are portable toilets. My job was to clean those when they were returned.

The unusual part came in the form of additional untaxable income over and above my regular wage. Using a metal dector I separated coins dropped by users of the portable toilets. That was mine to keep. Over the course of a few years taking the change to the bank and depositing the procceeds in my checking account then opening an self directed IRA I was able to buy stock & mutual funds tax free on the gains over the years.

Of course this is posted here in fabrications because none of this is true. It's to generate a mental image. How many thought as you read it, WOW that really is something I would have liked to do?

Having worked around construction sites, I have used many "Here's Johnny" Port-O-Lets, and would never look for spare change laying on the floor. Your eagerness to "share", made the story less credible. Presenting fiction as truth, is not a good practice around here. Coming clean at the end, doesn't make that gimmick work.

Actually, this was written in the tall tales section of the forum, and even Ken said to write fabrications here, or things that might or might not be true.
Since we aren’t really supposed to believe any of the stories here, I think that it fit really well. I was definitely wondering if he was able to thoroughly hose everything down before he went on the money hunt, so the “mental image” thing was working for me.
When my kids were little and we had to use the laundromat each week, my youngest son would crawl around behind the washing machines and find quarters that had been dropped and ended up back there.
He was never able to start a retirement fund, though......

Not intended to offend but this was about fabrication.

Perhaps if you read this in my fabrication/ fictional story you would have a better understanding, it wasn't written as a construction person.

My humble apologies! I was so stunned by the turn around ending, that I didn't catch that, Yvonne. I thought it was a "Jobs you have had" kind of post. I stand corrected.

I heard about a guy on a construction site who came out of a port-o-let in worse shape than when he went in. So the story goes, they guys asked him why he was covered in uh,...excrement after he exited the potty.
He stated that whilst he was taking his pants down, a quarter fell from his pocket and dropped into the hole.
Not wishing to get crapified for a lousy quarter, he pulled his wallet out and threw it in to give him a reason to go for the quarter.
