People laugh at it but, with more and more countries and private companies going into space, this might be a good idea.

When first they started to think of the ocean, they made ships to conquer the world; first Vikings, later the English who conquered most of the world. Now we have ships that go into space and if you don't get there first and set up a prescience you might be in trouble. I know there is a treaty to stop nuclear weapons in space but how do you check? Now there are weapons which are not nuclear probably more dangerous like [rods of god] that is not nuclear. It was only time that space would be the new ocean for mankind

I agree that it is a good/necessary idea whose time has come.

It saddens me though that the United States, Russia, China, etc... will eventually spend trillions of dollars to protect their assets in space when they could all be honorable and respect each other's property at little or no cost to any of the countries involved.

    I think it's inevitable.

As far as : they could all be honorable and respect each other's property at little or no cost to any of the countries involved. Has never happened and never will.

Ah, but leave it to mankind to produce potholes even in space. Out of nearly 8000 man made objects in space, there are about 5000 of them that are satellites.
That’s a lot of stuff to navigate around with zero gravity and friction brakes to help out so I do predict that someone, from some nation will have a fender bender and then we’ll have to figure out who to give the reckless driving ticket to.
Maybe we’ll have a MSP (military space police) ship roaming around to keep our space cadets in line.......
They might even have to post an “off limits” sign at that strip joint on the dark side of the moon....
After all, wherever our military goes, there’s always a cat house, strip joint and a bar that seems to spring up.

They are actually getting closer to setting up the Space Force, and Redstone Arsenal is on the short list of places for Space Command to be located.
Apparently , they are looking at several Air Force bases in Colorado, as well as Vandenberg AFB in California.
Even though the NASA space shuttle launches are not here in Alabama, the headquarters for NASA is here, as well as the Missile Defense Agency, MIssile Command, and Marshall Space Flight Center; so a lot of the headquarters for these important military installations are right here in Huntsville .

We live just outside of one of the Arsenal Gates, and there is already a lot of traffic coming in and out every day, so if the new Space Command does end up being here, they will probably be widening roads connected to the arsenal gates, as well as building new housing developments for new personnel nearby.
