Riverview Park. An Amusement Park unequalled during it's time. As a kid, my Dad would take us there grudgingly once a year. As a teen, I frequented it more often, with a friend or two. I have a video which tells it's history, kind of long, 27 minutes, but reveals facts I never knew. Material gathered over many years by a man who spent much time photographing it, filming it, documenting it. The second, which seems silent, names the guy I mentioned, Polish name, even I am lost pronouncing it! Shows the rides fairly clearly.
I didn't look at the videos yet but it was my favorite amusement park. As a child I didn't live in Chicago but my grandparents did and every summer when I visited we'd go there....what a treat!! One ride I never went on but loved to watch was the Parachute...do you remember that one @Frank Sanoica? Looked so scary....
@Chrissy Cross Yes, of course! The tower of it was visible for miles! My sister went on it once; she said, never again, a terrific, back-wrenching crunch when it bottomed-out after the free-fall. They had huge springs at the bottom which absorbed the energy; however, I think they allowed two at a time to ride. A number of times on the news over the years, they showed an unfortunate couple or individual, stuck at the top, while the Fire Department endeavored to get them down! Frank
At one point we lived very near Lane Tech for about a year. Unless I'm remembering wrong but wasn't that fairly close to WGN studios?
