I think that you can use it to make wifi-based phone calls, @Babs Hunt . When I am at home, my phone is connected to my wifi, just like my iPad is.
You can use it to take pictures with, too.
Most restaurants and other public places have free wifi nowdays also; so as long as you are connected to a wifi connection somewhere, you should be able to use it.
Another thing that you might like is to store all of your music on the phone, and then if you use headphones or get a bluetooth speaker, you can use it to play your music any place you want to.
Bobby really loves this function !
He has a little portable speaker and he takes it along with him when he is working somewhere and listens to all of his music. If someone calls him, then the speaker becomes a speakerphone and he can answer his phone call right from the speaker.
A lot of the apps at the App Store will also work on your phone, so you can browse through any that you are interested in and load some apps on the phone.
I have my health apps, Kindle app, weather, and all kinds of other things that I am interested in loaded on my phones.

Well here's my new phone and I have it pretty much set up and ready to go...and I did not find anything hard to do in setting it up either. :) I am especially happy to find that I could add a talk text of my husband to use with his vision problems...of course I'm not sure if that means I will have to read him the replies to his talk texts....but we will find out.

I already let my sisters and daughters know they could now text me on my phone. :) It's a nice size phone which I like and I make the font size as large as I could so hopefully my husband will enjoy it too. And since the phone is black and does not have much contrast in color I order a white case for it with pink roses...my husband is just going to love that. :p

You should be able to have text replies read to your husband, Babs. My son , Michael always uses voice texting when he is driving, and when I was riding with him, he was voice-texting his wife, and when she answered, then the phone read her answer back to him. I have never tried using voice text, but it seems like a really good idea compared to trying to find the little keypads on a smartphone.

That might really be nice for my husband although he does like to really talk on the phone the normal way instead of texting. But texting has finally become a necessity to me if I want to talk with my family more...they all prefer texting. And really I like to write better than I do orally talking most of the time...so I think it's going to work just fine for me. :)
