It's happening again. (The first barrel of) "Beer is tapped" the mayor of Munich is shouting using the Bavarian dialect after which beer can be served. He is being suspiciously watched if it takes him more than two blows of the hammer. I have never been to the Oktoberfest but I like watching the scene every year. Conditions are off-putting, though.

On the first day people will have waited for up to four hours before they are let in. Then they are running to snatch the best seats always fearing they might be overrun by others. The first of them will have to wait for another three hours before the first beer is served. Those at the end of the beer tent will have to wait one more hour. Can you imagine the plight of having to wait for eight hours before you can have something to drink?

Waitresses are wearing cycling shorts underneath their traditional dresses (dirndl) because these are tight and padded protecting certain parts against exploring male fingers especially when the waitresses are helpless while having to carry and serve a large number of heavy steins in the narrow aisles of the packed tent.

A standard 33 oz stein is ca. 13 bucks this year depending on the beer tent each serving just one of the six licensed beer brands.

This guy, Derek Madutk, is from the US who bought himself leather pants and apparel before entering the grounds. It's a costly business for everyone wanting to spend a day or two on the fair grounds.

You mean the sun beds? That's a myth. Since I have never been on a package tour to any country it can't have been me anyway. :D

    Yes the sunbeds..lol...

I haven't been on a package holiday since my twenties ( and I would never dream of going on one again) but it was definitely true in those days, but I saw a fly-on-the wall show at a package hotel and watched while all the BRITS were getting up at 2 am and putting a towel on the sunbeds.. not the Germans now.. *Caught redhanded* :D
