Today was our day for our monthly trip to Sam’s Club , where we stock up on the items that we buy in bulk, or that are just cheaper at Sam’s. Then, we went to the Walmart Neighborhood Market (called “Baby Wally” by us) to get Bobby’s favorite McCafe coffee, and then home to put away all of the groceries. After that, I had been promising Bobby that i would make him either some fiber cookies or cake, so I made a chocolate fiberlicious cake for him, and then made another batch of granola for me while the oven was hot. We had a few strawberries that needed to get used up, so I next made a pint of strawberry preserves, which we can have with a bagel and cream cheese if we feel like splurging for something special to eat. That, my dear friends, is my “Suzy Homemaker” efforts for the day, so now I am going to just sit back and relax for a while . It was rainy this morning, but stopped while we were at Sam’s Club, and has been cloudy (but not raining) the rest of the day, and the temperature is warming up again; so all in all , this has been a good day for us.
What a tiring day it's been. We've spent the whole day since late morning, scarifying the lawns... jeez where the heck does all that moss come from? We had to go over the lawns 4 times to ensure the grass was ready to take new seeds.. . We filled up the recycling bin, and a huge builders bag just with moss. Incredible, because the lawns looked lovely but really they weren't healthy because of the moss!!..So now, hubs is spraying all the weeds...a passer by wouldn't think we had any weds but hubs can spot them a mile away and they irritate him, so he's out there with the big sprayer doing front and back.. It's only 4.30pm but I feel like I've worked for 12 hours ... my back is breaking, so enough for me now.. I've left him to the rest of it.. It's been a gloriously warm sunny day to do it tho'...we couldn't have chosen a better day.
Now how could anyone be scared of MY face...I just place a picture or 2 of those I hate, and that does the job.. Seriously..scarifying is this... https://www.lovethegarden.com/advice/lawn-care/tools/what-lawn-scarifier-and-how-use-it One part of the tines are for scarifying and the other tine roller is for aerating ..as you rightly said Don
Hey, I don't want my grass to grow any better! If we get plenty of rain, my son has to cut it every five days. I do have some weeds AKA wildflowers but I don't mind them. They have pretty blooms.
Shirley, my lawns are mowed all the time..mainly by me.. and they always look very neat , and yes I agree some weeds do have pretty flowers, but the problem is the weeds draw the nutrients out of the grass, and the lawns become unhealthy, so you have to not only spray the weeds, you have to scarify to remove all the moss which is preventing the lawns from being the healthiest it can be..
Our day, thus far, has gone rather well. I finished another one of the laundry basket planters, filled it with soil, and seeds, and now, God is watering our little garden for us. It has been hot and humid here today, and I already felt like my skin was sticky and ready for a rinse-off; so for the first time this year, I was out in the little backyard pool. It is only about 12 feet across and 30” deep, but plenty big enough for us to get in and cool off, or suntan on the little pool floats. The water felt SO wonderful, and I stayed in until I could see that the dark clouds were moving in, and the rain would be here shortly, and you never know for sure whether there will be lightning or not, so always best to be out of the pool before the storm. With everything closed down so much at the fitness center, we will probably be making a lot of good use of the pool this summer !
Yesterday my husband went to buy pool chemicals and managed to snag some Lantana at the garden center. I was floored that he paid $13.99 EACH for Lantana plants; yikes!! I was going to plant them today but when I headed outside it had started to rain and the sun is out, so it was like walking into a sauna. The pricey Lantana can just sit out there and wait for another day. We need to mulch the beds so another trip to the garden center is in the cards.
Today was pretty non-eventful and I'm not complaining. It is getting HOT, though. I got the lantana planted and it looks like it's a little shocked by the transplant but I'll keep it watered. My husband spent the afternoon with some kind of mortar repair goo in a caulking gun making repairs to some of the brick mortar on the house. I ordered a swimsuit online and it actually fits, so hallelujah. I'll get my floatie all aired up and paddle around some tomorrow.
What attracted me to this thread was simply because I saw "happy talk" in the title. We should all be starving for "happy talk" these days.
Getting better.Today we are going to see my brother and spend the night. Have not seen him o my sister in law in almost see months. Yes the heat is up here in Texas and we dread that because best we stay in when hot and humid. Otherwise all is Purdy gud
