    Yup, perhaps the ladies soccer teams are pretty popular for the same reason. :)

    Except for the US, soccer is a very much loved sport.

    Some of my grandsons played when younger...that seems to be the extent of it here. Kids playing it.

    I did, too, until the Germans were out.

    Soccer just needs a bigger net, or a smaller field. High scoring games are more exciting.:)

    @Thomas Stearn - understandable, some of the great teams have gone, Germany and Argentina
    But, there are some gems left. Spain, so far - fantastic, and Uruguay were outstanding last night - FAB !

    I watched the World Cup match between France and Argentina and it was a very exciting one.

    Three of the goals scored were the kind where the player 'bent' the ball into the goal.

    Like a great curve ball in baseball or a 45 yard pass 'on a rope' in American Football,
    these can create wonder in me when I watch.

    I don't watch as much 'Soccer' since I left the UK, we attended matches at the local club
    Colchester United,FC and enjoyed the whole atmosphere.

    Yes a good match - the curve ball is fascinating to watch

    @Patsy Faye
    Now with Spain another major West-European team has to leave the tournament. Very sad if only more or less unknown national teams of small(er) countries manage to remain in the competition. Not saying that the German team deserved to stay in the contest. They rightly had to leave because they played very badly. :(

    I was impressed with Spain, I'll be watching later although they are not likely to be pushed, but ya never know with
    this game.
    Then of course England, I don't usually bother with them but I heard of the new team and they 'did' play as a team !
    So I was pleased to see that and hopefully they will continue to impress :)

    @Thomas Stearn
    Oh ! you've given the game away Thomas ! I'll have to ignore this thread ! :(

    o_O I wasn't aware I did. Did not mean to. Aren't you watching it live at the same European time? Can you explain?

    I never watch the games 'live' always settle down in the evening to watch
    It was an awful game so doesn't matter now. Spain should have shown their fans more respect and played to win
    I think it best not to mention the outcomes till the day after but I can join this thread the day after so that's OK :)

    Fair enough, but how should I have known? Where did you say that in the thread?
    Anyway, now I know and won't do that again. Promised.
